As Texas Gov Abbot prepares to pardon a white man & convicted murderer for killing a peaceful BLM protestor—Texas sentences a Black man to 70 years in prison for “spitting at police” to “make an example out of him.”😳

Systemic white supremacy is thriving in the GOP. Horrific.

@QasimRashid

And protests won't matter because, as a Republican, Abbot has no shame and no decency.

@ScottSoCal @QasimRashid

Also, protests won't matter because Republicans have made it legal to murder protestors.

@Mxhrad @ScottSoCal @QasimRashid its important to remember that the original Nazis absolutely depended on bullying and street violence - terror in short - they would not have been able to gain the kind of power they needed through democratic means. These developments are serious! #fascism
@QasimRashid
How very Kyle Rottenhouse of him.
@QasimRashid Please tell me they're appealing the 70-year sentence. That's gotta be a cruel and unusual punishment for spitting on someone's face.
@Mxhrad @QasimRashid he probably had a court appointed lawyer. This man will spend those years in prison unless we intervene and get him funds to get a decent lawyer.

@Agora @QasimRashid

"We have the best system of government," say the people living in a country where judges try to ruin the lives of people for minor crimes, but they only succeed with poor people.

@QasimRashid

Time for Blues to leave Texas and re-power the Blue Wall to save the world.

They got you right where they know you're powerless

#PackSwingStates

@QasimRashid messages are being sent.
@QasimRashid Here is a link to the story about the Texas man sentenced to 70 years for spitting at police. This individual apparently has a long criminal record, and the multiple prior convictions were what made the 70 sentence possible. Despite all that, a 70 year sentence is for me unbelievable, even in Texas. https://www.lubbockonline.com/story/news/courts/2023/04/14/habitual-offender-gets-70-years-in-prison-for-spitting-at-police/70104281007/
Jury hands down 70-year sentence to violent habitual offender who spat at police during domestic violence arrest

A 3-year-old man who was convicted of spitting at police officers was sentenced Wednesday to 70 years in prison.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
@carlosritchie @QasimRashid for fucks sake!! He is probably mentally disturbed. Prisons are choke full of mentally disturbed repeat offenders.
@QasimRashid Their message is loud and clear: Texas is a shithole state.
@cowvin @QasimRashid
Sigh. My neighbor across the street in San Antonio.
Beauty exists in Texas.
@macknowles @QasimRashid You mean until Republican outlaw it?
@cowvin @QasimRashid
Calm down now.
I see I have boosted much of the same stuff you have.

@macknowles @QasimRashid So you don't think that things are getting rapidly worse these days?

Minorities are losing their rights. In this case, a black man was murdered and the murderer is getting pardoned.

@cowvin
Why do you start a comment by telling me what I think?
I already tried to agree with you and you are still yelling.

@macknowles I didn't tell you what you think. If you notice, it was a question.

And nobody is yelling. If you don't want to answer the question, then you can simply say so.

@QasimRashid Texas, y'all really need to boot the GOP out of power.
@QasimRashid pure racism, where are the KKK burning crosses?
@QasimRashid both stories “sending a message“
@QasimRashid This makes me so mad. There is never a legitimate reason for murder, but that's exactly the message this will send. >:(
@QasimRashid
If something comes from this: Stay AWAY of living in Texas. It is not safe there.
@pthenq1 @QasimRashid
Lived in San Antonio for 43 years.
I like the weather....generally.
Never been harmed.

@macknowles @QasimRashid

Perhaps you have the right color?
Said with respect.

@pthenq1 @QasimRashid
I have gray hair and purple ankles.
I got stopped twice and questioned while out walking.
In 43 years.
What I want to point out is that Texas has lots of folks doing good stuff.

@macknowles @pthenq1 @QasimRashid

Sounds about white🧐 I live in DFW. Too many guns. The first 2 months I lived here, idiots in the apartment below me thought firing their gun inside was a good idea🤦‍♀️ Cops did nothing, though it's a crime to do that. Texas isn't safe.

@QasimRashid Cruel & Unusual punishment is unconstitutional. No one ever died from spit, but knee on the neck works!
@QasimRashid If I heard I was getting 70 years for spitting at a cop I'd become violent
@QasimRashid we should hold all corporations who contribute to #Abbott’s election campaign as contributors to promoting hate and unsafe living environment for citizens of Texas. Corporations are funding this shit show. We stop the shit show by holding corporations accountable for the shit they fund. #CorporateAccounabilitySavesDemocracy
@QasimRashid Texas is sure sending a clear message.
@QasimRashid It can’t be lawful or legal to sentence someone to 70 years for that.
@QasimRashid As an aside, the "peaceful BLM protestor" pointed an AR at the "murder", before the "murder" shot him.
@FriendCarl @QasimRashid except several eye witnesses testified under oath that the victim never raised his gun, so you are lying you sick fuck
@QasimRashid I feel so much anger. How can they pardon the murder? Also spitting on racists is not that big a deal. Really disgusting that he got more than a slap on the wrist. Tempted to add ACAB on the basis of this.
@QasimRashid so do something about and stop complaining.
@QasimRashid I hope the DoJ gets involved since this has now become a hate crime & an attack on civil rules
@QasimRashid No less than at the request of Tucker Carlson. What do you think they want from this racist murderer? This sounds crazy, but Republicans are gathering a hit squad to eliminate targeted nonwhites and white allies. Remember, Dylann Roof and Kyle Rittenhouse are their heroes.
@QasimRashid my god the hypocrisy in the red states is sickening. We need to starve them of our revenue by not vacationing there and not supporting companies that are run there. I feel like that’s about all we can do.
@QasimRashid What a total scam the legal system in this country is becoming.
@QasimRashid why would any black person want to live in TeKKKsas?
@QasimRashid @BlackAzizAnansi truly horrifying in its clarity.
@QasimRashid Is it the GOP or just Texas?
@QasimRashid It is the galling lack of shame displayed by most of the Republican Party that is most disturbing to me. For them, shame is gone. Trump, DeSantis, Youngkin, Tennessee state house, Abbott, etc.
@QasimRashid For small perceived political gain, Gov Abbott knows no lows to which he can stoop.
@QasimRashid I can’t express how wrong this is, and it’s not my Texas; she’s held hostage by fascist donors who OWN Greg Abbot, Ken Paxton, Dan Patrick, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn =control freakshow= #fascist #fascists 🤬🤬 #texas
@QasimRashid Abbott personifies the incredible insecurity and fear of white GOP males. The desire to eradicate black and brown skinned people, LGBTQ is beyond horrific. Eradicate…you did get that part?
@QasimRashid holy shit current issue aside, how can it be legal for some rando to say “I’m going to give you a ridiculous sentence to make an ‘example’ out of you” how is this how our justice system works? Makes me sick
@QasimRashid
When I left the Army in 1980 I was going to ride my motorcycle back to California on a Southern route, as it was Winter. My commander discouraged me, saying a guy with short hair riding a motorcycle with CA plates would likely get harassed by the police or local vigilantes.
