In our never-ending quest to catch up on all the television and movies we haven’t seen, now we’re watching #MsMarvel.
I’m not gonna liveblog this one, though. 🙃

As a member of #GenX, I’ve appreciated the incongruity of #MsMarvel being a #millennial or #GenZ hero with a #boomer name.
(I’ve never read any of the comics so I have no idea if this ever comes up there.)
While I thought it was fun overall, the “misunderstood teenager” bit got old really fast. At least they didn’t play it like a sitcom.
I hope there’s a lot less of it in the regular series, but I think that’s like my comment that in #SHAZAM I think I could take about 5 minutes of “boy in a man’s body” before I gouge my eyes out. “That’s the whole movie,” said a friend.
So I still haven’t seen SHAZAM.
#MsMarvel S1E2 “Crushed”
Just a little delay between watching the first episode and this. 😊
(Adding a dog to our household has sharply constrained our TV watching time, because he is still not compatible with our cats.)
Good thing she didn’t decide to name herself The Bangle.
All religious ceremonies seem deeply weird to me, no matter what religion they are.
My brain files scenes like these under “cultural gatherings which mean a lot to some of these people, a little to some of these people, and leave me scratching my head.”
I don’t know much about the India/Pakistan partition, but that scene about it was pretty chilling.
I guess not really surprising given similar horrible things which have happened in broadly similar disruptive circumstances.
The generational elements of this episode are much richer than the first episode.
Can’t wait for Kamala to ditch this Captain Marvel outfit.
#MsMarvel S1E3 “Destined”
(spoiler thread)
Remember when superheroes hid their secret identities with domino masks?
I wonder what sort of public presence #CaptainMarvel has had on Earth that we haven’t seen such that Kamala is a fan of hers?
It seems like she had basically zero public presence on Earth until #AvengersEndgame. Maybe she was publicly active during the Blip period?
This show is a very slow roll but somehow it works.
I am mildly disappointed that the bangle didn’t come from Bangalore, though.
#MsMarvel S1E4 “Seeing Red”
(Spoiler thread)
I have friends who travel to India and the Middle East from time to time and I feel tired just flying across the United States.
I’m not sure my butt could survive a flight to the other side of the world.
I appreciate this series’ dedication to its increasingly idiosyncratic set-pieces.
I can just see the writers’ room concocting the silliest #JasonBourne chase they can come up with.
Some people need a quantum tunnel to time travel, other just need to get stabbed in the bangle.
#MsMarvel S1E5 “Time and Again”
(spoiler thread)
I do enjoy stories where a character learns after the fact that they fulfilled their destiny through time travel.
The Anubis Gates by #TimPowers is my favorite example of this.
Neat how they cast actresses for the four generations of women who look somewhat alike but not too alike.
This Veil of Noor stuff was dramatic but kind of baffling. Najma was just flat-out wrong about how it works, I guess? It’s frustratingly vague.
#MsMarvel S1E6 “No Normal”
(spoiler thread)
