As an #AppleMusic subscriber I’m never quite sure if I can safely let my #iTunesMatch sub fall by the wayside - and nothing I’ve read on the matter makes me feel any more confident about it.

Anyone here who has done just that and is still able to access all the music they’ve personally uploaded (that isn’t available on Apple Music)?

It’s £22 I’d rather not spend if it’s unnecessary, but it’s the fear of the unknown and the loss of my obscure stuff that I don’t want to risk losing access to.

@purplelime I can’t believe my brain had this article tucked away inside it, and yet, it surfaced to the top when I read your toot. https://www.macworld.com/article/228364/apple-improves-icloud-music-library-matching-ditches-drm-files-for-apple-music.html
Apple improves iCloud Music Library matching, ditches copy-protected matched files for Apple Music users

iCloud Music Library will now match all tracks with acoustic fingerprinting and no copy-protected files. So if you have Apple Music, you no longer need to pay for iTunes Match.

@chrisdejabet ah brilliant, thanks Chris. The other articles I’d read didn’t explain it so clearly as this. I’ll cancel the auto-renew now 🎵

@purplelime I never used Match, but my memory and everything I can find on line says you don’t need both. Match functionality is included in Apple Music subscription: https://www.imore.com/do-i-still-need-itunes-match-if-i-have-apple-music

And as an Apple Music subscriber I have added some DJ sets to my library and they do sync across devices, so, I can at least say that functionality works for me currently.

Do I need iTunes Match if I have Apple Music?

If you have Apple Music, you have iTunes Match. No need to pay twice, but make sure you back up your music collection!

@matt thanks, Matt! I too have a lot of DJ sets from years ago that I was worried about losing. I’ll turn auto-renew off now 👌
