Crow's claim about buying it for a museum can't be squared with Thomas's mother still living in it after the purchase, the improvements made to the home, nor with Thomas breaking the law to keep it secret.

Harlan Crow Bought Property from Clarence Thomas. The Justice Didn’t Disclose the Deal.

The transaction is the first known instance of money flowing from Crow to the Supreme Court justice. The sale netted the GOP megadonor two vacant lots and the house where Thomas’ mother was living.

@maxkennerly @ProPublica The real question might be why didn't #ClarenceThomas do the improvements on a house that his Mother already owned? Was he not able to finance such improvements to "improve the house (neighborhood) himself? Was he in financial trouble and could not finance such a project? Did we have a #SCOTUS justice in financial difficulties? What bank would not lend him, even $600k (ballparking it) ?
