In the world of outrageous moves, this ranks up there. Today we look at Texas Gov. Abbott’s threat to pardon a convicted killer, who drove his car into a BLM protest then opened fire on a protestor, and what that means for justice and the rule of law. https://statuskuo.substack.com/p/gov-abbott-of-texas-declares-open?sd=pf
Gov. Abbott of Texas Declares Open Season for Violent, Armed Racists

On Saturday, less than 24 hours after a jury delivered its guilty verdict, Texas Governor Greg Abbott vowed on social media to pardon Daniel Perry, who was found guilty of the murder of Garrett Foster, an Air Force veteran. Abbott requested that the Texas parole board review Perry’s conviction on an expedited basis.

@jaykuo it’s the trifecta for GOP Sainthood: kill a Black person or BLM ally, get away with it or pardoned, claim that you are the actual victim in all of this.

Average GOP voters will elevate anyone who accomplishes this to Sainthood.

@jaykuo I like to use their own words and throw them back in their faces - Gov Abbott is SOFT ON CRIME
@SNerd this psycho is hard *for* crime
@jaykuo ...has become a pathetic place where you allow criminals to repeat what they were incarcerated for in the first place, the person doing so has to be CRIMINAL AS WELL.!!

@jaykuo we have to stop looking at this like "legal" vs "illegal".

abbott is threatening to make that murder an act of state-sanctioned terrorism.

literally half of our elected officials are terrorists. until we distinguish between legitimate politicians and terrorists holding office, we're going to keep going backwards.

@seanwithwords @jaykuo

Don't forget foreign assets as well.
Although the big orange one is going through questioning after being indicted, there are others still in our Whitehouse beit whether wilfully or unwittingly.

@jaykuo
I know it's petty but Greg Abbott really makes me wish the tree was a little bit bigger.
@jaykuo Abbott is an evil son of a bitch.
@jaykuo how is this guy not charged with federal crimes also?
@jaykuo The GOP tacitly supports murdering citizens with whom you disagree. For years now they continue attempts to empower and absolve murderers through state legislation, pardons, and apologizing for their insurrectionist actions. A chapter of the GOP playbook seems to be "How to Create Shadow Storm Troopers in a Soft-Facist Society."

@jaykuo Abbott needs to be removed from office

@jaykuo

Abbott always looks like he would be cast as the villain in a Muppets movie.

@jaykuo you get what you vote for.

@jaykuo

It means that #Texas is even more of a #shithole.

Something is seriously wrong with #Texans.

They know it, too, but are too terrified to introspect. It's a well known conservative trait.

#Republican #GOP #uspoli #AmericaShitHole

@jaykuo
I live near Austin and have seen this thing from the beginning. What no one is addressing is that both of them had guns and in Texas it was all legal. That's the problem. There is really no way to know the good guys from the bad, especially here in Texas, since here it's really the wild west. If neither had been carrying, or just one of them, the outcome would have been different. I also lived in Uvalde where an 18 year old couldn't wait to buy an AR-15 and murder 19 children. Abbott and other officials were a disgrace over that one. And no one wants to bring up how that might have turned out differently if all the children had been white, because of almost 300 law enforcement officers who did nothing for over an hour.
@jaykuo
I like the idea of pardoning. It's a nice thing to do.
But of all people, THAT guy?!?!
Whyyyyyyyy?!?!
(It's rhetorical, I know why...)
@jaykuo I’d say if it was someone else, they are throwing their hat in the ring to run for GOP nomination with this move. With Abbot, hard to tell, cause he’s a sociopath.
@jaykuo Why doesn’t the Southern Republican Party just go ahead and tell everyone that what they see is exactly as it appears, RACIST! Black people don’t matter! They are “beneath” the white race. They are no less than animals. These words are not being said, but the actions certainly say otherwise!!! For the life of me, I do not understand peoples motivation for wanting to legitimize a false narrative!

@jaykuo

Unbelievable. Taking Texas back to the wild west were he who shoots and kills first can claim self-defense and walk away without consequences.

@jaykuo
No post about this is complete without mentioning that twelve Texas jurors rejected the "stand your ground" defense.

@jaykuo
Whether Abbott goes through with his threat of a pardon is not the main issue. It is a dog-whistle to the voters that like what he is saying.

And it is those voters that are the real problem.

.

@jaykuo Abbott wouldn't be there if Texas citizens hadn't repeatedly elected him into office as TX Attorney General in 2006 & 2010 then as TX Governor in 2014, 2018 & 2022.

...y'all keep blaming the symptom when the disease is the voting base of the State of Texas.

@jaykuo @TexasObserver He’s appointed himself king. There’s no need to sit on a jury any more. I certainly won’t while he’s governor. I mean, I’ll show up - but it won’t be pretty.
@jaykuo There is no justice. Unbelievable.
@jaykuo he will learn the same lesson as the Tennessee GOP. Protest will shine a HUGE light on it. They are TRULY their own worst enemy
