Re-watching #StarWars The Force Awakens. Not seen it since it was released. It’s a lot more fun than I remember.
Re-watched #StarWars The Last Jedi. Everything that happened in this movie I thought happened in the last one. I must not remember The Rise of Skywalker *at all*.
@gedeonm What did you think?
@Ronnie Honestly it wasn’t great. It was an extended chase sequence and full of plot cliche’s. The best aspects of the story get abandoned in the next one so it makes what happened here mostly moot. Some fun action, battles and Daisy is once again great. Don’t like grumpy Luke or Canto Blight side plot and Snoke never even comes close to Drama of Vader or Palpatine. 🤷‍♂️
@gedeonm unfortunately, the last movie was a stinker, but they threw in the nostalgia kitchen sink and Chewie got a medal…
@gedeonm I though D-0 was TLJ. I only have the vaguest collection of what happened in what movie beyond TFA
@gedeonm TFA was a pretty good movie…so I can watch it again sometimes…but then again we had been waiting long for that one…that is however the last movie of the new sequel that I rewatch with joy. I would rather put Rouge One on repeat…that was a great movie
@nilrog I agree with all of that. Don’t think I’m going to re-watch The Rise of Skywalker.
@gedeonm I have re-watched TLJ & TRoS once, because my youngest son wanted to see them again. Apart from short-term cash-flow, I cannot fathom how they (Disney) could ever think their storylines would hold up. They threw away everything good they did in TFA…which kinda was a reboot of the original SW…but good enough to give us “oldies” hope…that died
@gedeonm I feel that there’s been SOOOOO much pressure to be the best possible movie, criticizing them to such a point as to where any enjoyment at all isn’t even likely. Just like all the superhero movies, the Star Wars franchise is no different.
Action and fun and some drama maybe. A regular old “good” movie. Doesn’t have to be “great” to be good.
@gedeonm the first scene with Kylo was pretty sweet but other then that.

A few #starwars thoughts…

1. RoTJ was… not good to bad, with some really great effects and scenes. The film sold-out to marketing / toys / PG audience.

2. The OT as a whole, while I LOVE it -- it is THE foundational fictional myth of my lifetime -- was not the BEST story, which I think has been underlined by the messiness of the prequels and sequels.

3. A complicated political allegory combined with space-fantasy, all geared towards 10 year old kids is... a lot to take on…

@gedeonm
A few more #starwars thoughts…

4. SW is NOT science fiction. Its fantasy. I'll die on this hill. That doesn't really matter much, but I personally find it helpful when thinking about a bunch of the plot holes and stuff that doesn't add-up.

5. TFA was a fun and well made re-mix; we were all desperate for a new film! Ice water in hell…

6. TLJ was flawed, it was an even MORE uncomfortable mix of complex ideas, in a kids movie. Polarising is understandable!

@kraigschmidt @gedeonm Star Trek is science fiction. Star Wars is space fantasy.

@gedeonm

7. I enjoyed TLJ, but I personally want adult #starwars, not ewoks and canto-bight bullshit. Andor and Rogue One are IN. MY. WHEELHOUSE. MORE PLEASE!

8. RoSW had a TON of incredible set pieces but was knee-capped by HORRID editing for time. I'm CONVINCED there is an absolutely astonishing 4-hour cut of that movie that I would give anything to see. Or maybe it needed to be split into two films. I don't know…. But damn it had some cool scenes that I LOVE so much!
