North Dakota politicians just raised their meal reimbursement to $45 after rejecting a bill for free school lunches, which costs only $3 per meal. That means, for the price of one politician's lunch, you could feed 15 low-income kids — socialism for me, but not for thee.

@Miriamm I'll go you one better. In Alaska, the legislature is poised to get a 67% raise increase on top of the $300 per day per diem while they are in session. Meanwhile, the SNAP backlog here is months behind, people are literally starving, foodbanks are out of food, grocers in small areas are out of food and people are being hospitalized for malnutrition. Also, there is a huge shortage of childcare...tough, says the legislature and governor. Increase to public funding of public education...nope, we are broke. But, we have the billions to give to oil companies while they drill the next site in the National Petroleum Reserve and destroy stuff. Oh, and I could go on. I hate red states, but we aren't TN is the best I can say. I am so sorry shit is happening in ND, too.

@nanowiz @Miriamm It is pretty fucking dire, but it's how I feel right now. I am far enough away from the deep south to feel somewhat safe and close enough to Canada to escape if shit gets worse.
