"Even a mild case of COVID can cause a loss of brain matter equivalent to a decade of aging, according to an early version of a new study published in Nature on Monday, leading to 'larger cognitive decline' than people who have never suffered #COVID19."

Even a mild case of COVID can shrink your brain the same as aging 10 years, study shows

The study gives more evidence of the extent to which even mild COVID affects the body—and how long the effects can persist.

@augieray It’s amazing to me that people are just deciding to put their BRAINS on the line. I need my brain for work! And for most everything fun I do!
@IPEdmonton @augieray 💯 💯 💯 💯 It is just incomprehensible to me. I just can't imagine why people would CHOOSE to make their lives so very, very, very much worse. And don't even get me started on imposing this ish on kids
@IPEdmonton @augieray So much this!
But it seems like they just convince themselves they're not putting anything on the line, as if it's like getting into a car when cars can crash.
@sistermagpie @augieray I think some people genuinely don’t know. I mean, public health isn’t making any sort of effort to emphasise this part. But I also think lots of people don’t WANT to know. Or even genuinely know and try not to think about it.
@IPEdmonton @augieray Good point. I was thinking of people aggressively exposing themselves. People who somehow exist!
@sistermagpie @IPEdmonton @augieray one of my favorite people in history was a good friend in prep school who drove a car with failing brakes, but it was a joke because he was suicidal. My friend would have gone without masking for sure.
@IPEdmonton
They expect someone else to do the work for them.
@augieray
@noyes @augieray that's not how the kind of job I have works at all, though (I'm a university professor/researcher). Your work lives and dies by your brain. Lose that, and you'd better hope you're near retirement age.
@IPEdmonton
I meant the work of ending the pandemic, but understand what you are saying
@augieray

@augieray
Your children will be imbeciles by the time they're 30, but they'll be mild imbeciles.

Nah, just kidding. It's not reasonable to expect a child restaurant exposed to a biological agent like SARS-CoV-2 to make it to 30. If any do, they'll be outliers.
@merileedkarr

@augieray The first rule on my "no nuance necessary" COVID policy is that uninfected is always better than infected.

@augieray
So have I managed to avoid Covid19 infection all this time because I’m clever?

Or am I clever because I’ve managed to avoid Covid19 infection all this time?

@kelvin0mql Clever? Careful? Smart? Lucky? I'd say all of the above. (I haven't had it either, and I feel all four.)
