I’m looking for a #Mastodon client that lets my timeline begin where I left off, even when it’s two days in the past. I want then to slowly and chronologically work my way up to “now”, and the client would fill the gaps as I read, without layout-shifting current toots in the viewport when newer toots lazy-load above. Web-based (preferred) or iOS. I essentially want what Echofon provided for Twitter. Mammoth is close, but not perfect. Elk is reverse-chronological. Suggestions? Thanks!

@tomayac the native web app, with Slow Mode turned on in the settings?

Otherwise I'm fairly sure @sarah11918 (was it you?) had some preferred apps...

Aha here's the post I was thinking of:

@sarajw @sarah11918 Thank you! Sarah's post points at an Android app, though. I don't like the side navigation layout of the native web app to be honest. I know, it's me.

@tomayac @sarah11918

Fair enough - and I totally get it, I would like the sidebar gone too...

@tomayac @sarajw For a web app, it's still working some stuff out, but you could also check out Mastodeck (modelled on TweetDeck, if you liked that setup.) It's not yet exactly what I'd like it to be, but it has promise. So, one to keep your eye on!
@tomayac @sarajw But yeah, to get that sweet, sweet hold your place comfort... my Android app is going to be hard to beat. They already have it mastered in their existing Twitter app. I use it for all timeline/list kind of reading, and Mastodeck the way I used Tweetdeck: mostly for saved searches (can't wait until I can CLEAR columns, like TD) and other columns for quick, up-to-the-minute viewing.
@sarah11918 @sarajw Thank you! Since Mastodon doesn't do keyword searches, many of my TweetDeck columns that were based on those don't translate over. I keep searching… 😀

@tomayac @sarajw Right, I feel that. My Twitter searches were so elaborate, combining user names and keywords with false-positive exclusions.... RIP my beloved search hacks!

So my searching on Mastodon is hashtag-based, which was near impossible to do volume-wise on Twitter itself. But since you can't ever see all the posts anyway, hashtag searching here is quite reasonable.
