Tallahassee principal fired after parents complain Michelangelo statue of David is 'pornographic'
Hope Carrasquilla was pushed out of Tallahassee Classical School after three parents complained that their kids were 'upset' by Michelangelo's David, the world's most famous sculpture.
@SarahOestreich@Popehat i was asked to censor the entire Sistine Celling to talk to upper level high schoolers (premptively), so not surprised at all. Here in KY btw, were the FL extreme laws haven’t (yet) passed.
@drantjegamble@Popehat asked by whom? This does such a disservice to young people and their education. Growing up in New York I used to go to The Met with my mother but also on school field trips, and yes there was nudity in the art. I know the head of the school board was planning on speaking derisively about New York (he had to settle for Virgina instead) so he probably thinks this was a mistake and I wasn’t mature enough for it. But he would be wrong.
@drantjegamble@Popehat where you are? A school where the objective is to teach. What do they think will happen if *high schoolers* see nudity? This idea that nudity is inherently sexual and need to be protected from art is ridiculous. And one can only assume if they see this is a problem, sex-ed is a no-go. Oof I’m sorry—for you, and the students
