The CalDigit TS4 that I favor is back in stock:

I’ve understood some people have had some minor issues with it, but for me it’s been pretty much perfect.

@caseyliss cc @thomasfuchs - in-lieu of a true KVM, this is at least a one cord solution to go across machines.

@film_girl @caseyliss @thomasfuchs A word of warning. I have one and for some reason, one side of the usb-c / thunderbolt ports on the back makes my Rode Podcaster mic go all robot voice.

It's still great, but if you run into the same issue try plugging your mic into the other side.

@film_girl @caseyliss @thomasfuchs this, albeit with an older cal digit 3 is my KVM solution between a work issued Mac Studio, work issued 16”mbp, and my personal little xps13 running Linux. Works great and I get to use the same keyboard, mouse, audio, webcam etc across all of them.
@ShamylZakariya @film_girl @caseyliss @thomasfuchs Do you just manually swap the various cables yourself or is there some slicker way of doing it?
@Jordon @ShamylZakariya @caseyliss @thomasfuchs everything is plugged into the CalDigit. Swap one cable to the other machine and it can now access all of your monitors and input devices and whatnot

@Jordon @film_girl @caseyliss @thomasfuchs Yup, just swap out the cable like a caveman.

For a while I used a magnetic quick-release (think magsafe) thunderbolt socket for convenience. It was pretty good, but the strong magnet caused trouble with the wifi on one of my laptops.

@caseyliss @film_girl I’ve been using it since it came out, works great. Upgraded from TS3
@caseyliss one of these with two inputs I can switch between would be amazing
@caseyliss TIL opening Mastadon can cost you ~$400
@caseyliss It does seem pretty good. The exchange from 🇨🇦to🇺🇸 is kinda rough though (1.37)

@caseyliss just wanted to share an update on the European power-brick noise issue that I shared with you a while ago. They finally shipped out replacement units after one year of waiting. Zero noise in my case, however their support email mentioned that some of the newer bricks were not fully silent.

Not sure if existing stock has new or old power-bricks.

@caseyliss ah yes, only the high-pitched screaming noise from the power adapter, but it’s indeed minor if you put that away. This dock is here since it came out, connecting a 5K + 4K monitor and connecting my laptop to ethernet - really lovely 😍

@caseyliss I want a TS4 so bad, but my CalDigit Thunderbolt 2 dock is still going strong after 7 YEARS. After years of yelling at my headphones back when y'all complained about crappy USB docks being crappy and said things like “I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars...”*, I am glad some ATP hosts have embraced the expensive-but-holy-crap-it-works-really-well Thunderbolt dock lifestyle.

*Seriously, for a while it was like the one computer thing @marcoarment wouldn't throw money at.

@caseyliss the minor issues I’ve had were always resolved by a restart of the Mac which points the finger solely at crappy Apple software and nothing to do with the TS4 🙄
@caseyliss On my i9 MacBook Pro (2019), the 2.5gbps Ethernet port has been unreliable on Monterey. (I’m stuck on this OS for a few more months). I might have had similar problems with my m1 MacBook Pro, but I haven’t experienced any issues with it in Ventura.

@caseyliss I used a TS3 Plus at work for ages, and when the TS4 came out I bought one for myself (for my 2019 Mac Pro). Right now it’s plugged into my new Mac Studio.

At work they upgraded my TS3+ to a TS4, and with two 4K monitors it sometimes gets the resolution wrong on one of the screens, or swaps their relative positions just for funsies. But I suspect that’s more to do with macOS’s multiple screen support

@caseyliss since I already have a TB monitor, and just needed more powered USB ports, I just got the CalDigit Element Hub instead. It works great. https://a.co/d/08EOTff

@caseyliss FYI, for anybody having issues, CalDigit released a firmware update to the TS4. It's a bit of a pain to install, but may help for those that bought early on.

@caseyliss I will say I love my Plugable Thunderbolt 4 hub as it doesn't seem to have the minor issues and I got to pick a well-regarded 2.5GB usb-c ethernet adapter to use with it. It's been rock solid for me, but glad the TS4 is working for you.
