Hello #academics

Do you have a #mentor ?

How did you find them?

Has having one helped you? With what?

@TomRhysMarshall Not really answering your questions, but here’s a paper that explain why mentors can be useful and how to make the most out of them: Making the Most of Mentors: A Guide for Mentees
@TomRhysMarshall
Hi Tom, I've had the chance of having incredible mentors over the years. They've helped me do science, learn to write better, navigate the maze of academia, network. Most of the senior mentors supervised my work under some capacity at some point. However I'd like to say the most impactful mentorship in my life has come from peers. Through brainhack and the neurobureau I've had the chance to get help on all the points above and made dear friends along the way! Tagging @clarekelly who is on mastodon (miss you Clare!) But many others outside of mastodon as well. At this stage of my career I've been lucky to supervise a number of incredibly talented junior researchers as well, and they are in many ways mentoring me back - I'm learning so much by their example. Tagging @hao @emdupre here as they are on mastodon, but again many others off mastodon as well. In summary, mentorship is incredibly powerful - I would not have succeeded in this career path without my mentors 100%, and mentorship comes in all shapes and forms. 🌈πŸ₯°πŸ€—πŸ™ŒπŸ”₯❀️ to all of my mentors!
