A united and unwavering front of the staff at #MaynoothUniversity defended the right to democratically elect all 5 internal members of the #GoverningAuthority for months. Today we prevailed!

I am delighted with the outcome and very proud of all of us and of the #union and colleagues in the committee that defended our rights relentlessly πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

@bicycletting @SimonB @sinabhfuil @IBIKEDublin @dublincyclingcampaign I know there's a lot of work going on in making submissions on these.

My own focus has shifted to the broader issue of car-dependency and urban planning both here in Dublin and in Galway, and especially in the context of the Climate Emergency. The bike lane actions served a purpose, and are still a useful tool from time to time, but keeping that momentum going over a longer period can be challenging.

@bicycletting @SimonB @sinabhfuil @IBIKEDublin @dublincyclingcampaign I also think that the Critical Mass cycles serve a useful purpose as a regular meet up for cycling advocates and to normalise the idea of large numbers of people cycling through the city.

They're also great fun!

"A common confusion is that to decarbonise, the world will need to produce the equivalent of coal, oil & gas in the form of low-carbon energy.

That's not true.

Most fossil energy gets wasted. In the US, just one-third gets turned into useful services. The rest is wasted as heat."

Amsterdam's city council voted to shut down the city's cruise terminal to reduce mass tourism.
The city: Yes, the cruise ships do bring in €100 million per year, but half of that is for their fossil fuel suppliers here. And they cause a lot of air travel to and from Amsterdam.
