I find some of this blowback disingenuous. There were YEARS of consultation and it's not other people's fault if some editors didn't show up and act like it's a surprise. What was a surprise was the timing of the release, which was sudden, but not the nature of the model or the fact that it was implemented. Mike Eisen is the reason why I joined eLife,
While dissent is natural, it should have come much earlier during the consultation period,

And even then, there's no obligation to satisfy every criticism, especially not criticism based on gatekeeping and warped visions of prestige. If Mike goes and the new model is gutted, I'm going too.
