The incident prompted #AirForce #drone pilots to bring down the #MQ9Reaper in #InternationalWaters in what #US ofcls said has become a “pattern of dangerous actions by Russian pilots” while interacting w/American & allied #aircraft in #InternationalAirspace. The actions, #USmilitary ofcls said in a statement, “could lead to miscalculation & unintended #escalation” between the 2 countries.
“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in #InternationalAirspace when it was intercepted & hit by a Russian aircraft, resulting in a crash & complete loss of the #MQ9,” said MajGen James B. Hecker, a snr #military ofcl overseeing #AirForce ops in the region. “In fact, this unsafe & unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both aircraft to crash.”
