I often wonder how headline writers (often different than the writers of the article) can so often get basic meaning wrong in their headlines. Take this one: “Canadians get ready to set clocks forward amid U.S. push to end daylight saving time”.

The US is not pushing to end DST, the push is to end changing from standard to daylight by *keeping* Daylight Savings Time permanently. A subtle, but very consequential distinction.

Canadians get ready to set clocks forward amid U.S. push to end daylight saving time

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio last week reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act that would allow states to make daylight time permanent.

Global News
Also, the very fact Marco Rubio is the one pushing the legislation to allow states to keep DST permanently, as opposed to keeping Standard permanently which could have been done by States with no Congressional action whatsoever, should tell you all you need to know about what industry is pushing for this option and whether using DST permanently is good or bad for society as a whole.

@chris The European Commission has proposed an end to the bi-annual change of the clock in September 2018.
But they did not specify if they wanted to use daylight savings or standard time.
The member states shall decide.
In a referendum prior to September 2018 the majority chose “summer time”, i.e. daylight savings time, however, only about 4.8 million people participated.

Long story short: because the member states couldn’t find common ground we still switch twice a year.

@chris I am a fierce advocate of the time change. Otherwise I would go with perpetual standard time, because in winter there would be sun rise at about 9:30 with daylight savings time.
That would be hella depressing.
@StefanLedZep RIGHT! I think people in Canada and the northern US states especially are going to realize that having burger BBQ in daylight at 9PM in July is not worth having no sun until coffee break time in Winter!
@chris @StefanLedZep Yup. I'd like to see permanent standard time. Light in the morning is good. Also, the science seems to suggest that permanent standard time is healthier than permanent DST.
