Ben ToewsHow do real humans defrost shrimp? Colander in the fridge has never once worked for me. Is this like cooking chicken to 165° (cowardly USDA propaganda)?
I usually do a colander on the counter or sometimes an immersion circulator in ice water.

I've not heard of using a colander in the fridge.... That seems unsanitary.
Colander in the sink with running water is how I defrost shrimp. Takes < 5 minutes.
@scrambo I think the recommendation is to put the colander in a bowl. You’re not just letting the shrimps water drip everywhere :-). Anyway, running water sounds like the way to go. Thanks
Edie@bento Usually I decide the last minute I want them, so I defrost them in a colander under a running tap.
Annie@bento Twenty minutes before cooking, I pull from the freezer and dump in a big bowl of cold water. By the time I'm ready to use them, they're thawed. I rinse and drain, and I'm ready to go!
