To everyone outraged about Gary Lineker, I'd like to remind you that Jeremy Clarkson said striking public sector workers should be shot dead "in front of their families" on The One Show. We were told that Clarkson had a "right to his freedom of expression and that is protected".
@YokerOno The BBC director general, himself mired in accusations of bias for his relationship with Tory party, dodged an interview question when asked why he hadn't disciplined other freelancers like Alan Sugar for making party political tweets (in his case pro-Tory). He had no answer, which pretty much shows how pathetic this whole thing is, absolute mess
@YokerOno and to anyone outraged by that, I'd like to remind you that not a single person in the entire world thinks that Clarkson was being serious. Lineker most certainly was being serious - and the BBC are being idiots in thinking that there's anything wrong with what he said.
@YokerOno imo noone is genuinely outraged by linekar, it's all theatre to try to normalise their takeover of public broadcasting. Linekars view is the view of the majority, tories are trying to paint it like a one-man activist

@YokerOno Question from Germany: What is going on? Which tweet was so awful?

I can only find this one: https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1633111662352891908

Has he deleted the offending tweet?

Tweet / Twitter

Twitter
@Stefan_S_from_H That’s it. That’s the tweet.

@nathanbottomley That's what I feared but couldn't believe.

British humor (humour) is so crass and direct and yet, telling the truth in a serious tweet is crossing the line?

@YokerOno Ah, but he wasn’t criticising the Government that the Chair is personal mates with, was he?
@YokerOno It's the defenders of Lineker's firing who need to be reminded of this... by those who are outraged. Clarkson SHOULD have been fired: inciting violence is not #freezepeach !
@YokerOno That he has a right to appalling takes is irrelevant; saying that it's a bad take is not censorship
@YokerOno people on the birdsite have found repeated tweets from @bbc saying words to the effect that linekers tweets and other freelancers are made as an individual and not covered by BBC rules. It's when the Tories, Labour(ā‰ļø) And the right wing press don't like the content. Plain and simple
@YokerOno the idea of someone being outraged by ā€œCentralist fire brandā€ Lineker is already quite funny / strange. It’s like being outraged by mild cheddar cheese, or duvets. About the most possibly moderate ā€œthis kind of thing is not onā€ sentiment.
@YokerOno in fairness, he initially said he supported the strikes, then added ā€œoh, but this is the BBC so we must have balanceā€¦ā€ before making his comment. The butt of his joke was the BBC.
@YokerOno His freedom of expression also included punching BBC staff so there's that too!
@YokerOno He can say it if he wants but he can't whine about the consequences(I.E. people being mad at him.

@YokerOno Freedom of Expression is NOT limitless.

"Common limitations or boundaries to freedom of speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, incitement, fighting words, hate speech, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, food labeling, non-disclosure agreements, the right to privacy, dignity, the right to be forgotten, public security, and perjury."

And the UK also signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (#ICCPR).

So Clarkson's despicable tantrum is in fact not protected Freedom of Expression.

@YokerOno I was so excited to see englands rugby yeam not show up for yesterday's match with France in solidarity..... ;-) #sixnations #pummeling
@ShredderFeeder @YokerOno haha! I see what you did there šŸ˜‚

@YokerOno
Clarkson made a very badly-judged, typically boorish joke about BBC balance, which was obviously not serious. He said almost immediately that it wasn't his actual view, and afterwards reiterated that his words weren't to be taken seriously.

Lineker, on the other hand, made an entirely cogent point which he has rightly refused to withdraw.

I think it's clear where my sympathies lie, but the comparison isn't a fair one in my view

@YokerOno Clarkson is an abomination and hateful POS .. his ā€œfree speechā€ be dammed .. seems to love the public humiliation, and/or shooting of people he doesn’t like .. even though this comment was from 2011 I’m sure he feels the same way today .. too bad he isn’t still driving tiny cars around rather than inserting his unwelcome opinions everywhere…

@YokerOno

I think #GaryLineker is absolutely brilliant. Always such a decent, honest man. An inspiration.

@YokerOno - As an American, I liked Clarkson a whole lot more when I only heard his comments about Italian cars.

@YokerOno

I think it's better not to mention JC at all. He thrives on our outrage.
This kind of stuff is how we got into our current social, cultural and political mess.
