@YokerOno Question from Germany: What is going on? Which tweet was so awful?
I can only find this one: https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1633111662352891908
Has he deleted the offending tweet?
@nathanbottomley That's what I feared but couldn't believe.
British humor (humour) is so crass and direct and yet, telling the truth in a serious tweet is crossing the line?
@YokerOno Freedom of Expression is NOT limitless.
"Common limitations or boundaries to freedom of speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, incitement, fighting words, hate speech, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, food labeling, non-disclosure agreements, the right to privacy, dignity, the right to be forgotten, public security, and perjury."
And the UK also signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (#ICCPR).
So Clarkson's despicable tantrum is in fact not protected Freedom of Expression.
@YokerOno
Clarkson made a very badly-judged, typically boorish joke about BBC balance, which was obviously not serious. He said almost immediately that it wasn't his actual view, and afterwards reiterated that his words weren't to be taken seriously.
Lineker, on the other hand, made an entirely cogent point which he has rightly refused to withdraw.
I think it's clear where my sympathies lie, but the comparison isn't a fair one in my view
I think #GaryLineker is absolutely brilliant. Always such a decent, honest man. An inspiration.
I think it's better not to mention JC at all. He thrives on our outrage.
This kind of stuff is how we got into our current social, cultural and political mess.
