The Forest Service is close to a decision on the #UpperCheatRiver Project of the #Monongahela #NationalForest to #clearcut 3,500 acres of our oldest trees on steep slopes to create "Early Successional" habitat. The cut includes oaks and sugar maples more than 200 years old.

Contact Monongahela Forest Supervisor <[email protected]> and ask that the clear-cuts on the steepest slopes (to be harvested by helicopter) be dropped from the project. We need runoff reduction in this flood-prone area not wasteful #clearcut of #OldGrowth #forest.
