You don't need separate accounts to interact with different kinds of Fediverse servers.

For example, if you have a Mastodon account you can follow PeerTube accounts such as @theatticdwellers or @alliterative and their videos will appear in your Mastodon timeline as if they were Mastodon posts.

If you reply to a PeerTube video within Mastodon, the reply will also appear as a comment below that video on PeerTube. (And comments made on PeerTube will appear as replies on Mastodon.)

p.s. There are many kinds of servers on the Fediverse alongside Mastodon, here's a quick guide to some of them: https://fedi.tips/what-other-kinds-of-servers-are-on-the-fediverse

You can follow all of these server types from your Mastodon account.

@feditips Nice. It's probably time to add Wordpress?
@acka47 @feditips there are plugins for federation already available for WordPress.

@feditips How do you follow a server from your own account?

@feditips

How do you learn about the content on other services, so as to know what to follow?

@feditips I flagrantly copy/ pasted this on my Facebook page.
@feditips Super cool. Wondering why Pleroma isn't included on the list, though.
@feditips
But if you want to upload vids to PeerTube, you have to create a new account to join an instance there, right?
@feditips one thing I was interested in checking out was photos over on PixelFed instances. But I'm not sure how to find creatives to follow, it seems like PixelFed doesn't have public search.

Are there any tools for searching and browsing profiles on instances like that? I'm certain there's interesting photographers worth checking out but it seems like I need to make a separate PixelFed account to find them.
@johnny @feditips Watching this, because I also made a PixelFed acct (which I never use because even hashtags did not help me locate much content) because I couldn't figure out how to follow PF here on Mastodon.
@feditips @theatticdwellers @alliterative
Ok, but what happens when you try following Mastodon accounts from PeerTube or Pixelfed?
@feditips @theatticdwellers @alliterative right, but you can't post to pixelfed from mastodon, for example

@plaindocs

You can post from Mastodon to Pixelfed.

Pixelfed accounts can follow Mastodon accounts, and they will see Mastodon posts in the same way people on Mastodon see Pixelfed posts.

(One caveat: by default Pixelfed hides posts that don't have images attached, but PF users can switch on text-only posts as well from their settings page.)

@feditips thank you. I think what my brain expects is to be able to log in to PIxelfed with my mastodon account (and see pixelfed type stuff only). Otherwise I have the over head of "managing" two accounts.
@feditips thanks :O I never bothered to learn ins and outs of fediverse so these bite-sized infos are perfect for me.
@feditips clear as mud. Each time I've tried to access content on some other instance I'm asked to login. And it won't accept my credentials. I must still be doing something wrong but I've never heard of the sites you reference.

@dpscifi @feditips I agree, this is the main thing that I believe is unclear to new users - why do I need to copy/paste a link to my own server when browsing another server?

I've figured out how to live with it now, but I remember when I first joined, this was a big hurdle, and I think it's worth letting people browse and interact withother servers while staying logged into their own server, rather than having to copy/paste the link in order to interact.

@feditips although i still do because i don't want to miss out the UIs of the separate platform, it's basically a wasted work for the devs if you only see their platform from your account on another platform, and this os exceptionally true for platforms with complex and good UIs like pixelfed or misskey, you truly miss everything about them if you see profiles from these platforms from the one you are in right now
@feditips any puphub platform can interact with any puphub platform. you may have to make an acc to post on that platform specifically tho.
@feditips I did not know that! Genuinely nice to know.
@feditips I want one account that does all the things.
