Will@pluralistic the worst part is that buying Spirit isn't even about selling seats, it's about loyalty program margins--the real profit drivers of airlines. Competition saves consumers money, but in this case it also makes flights available *at all*. The fewer competing loyalty programs, the more consumers are locked in, the less the airlines need to provide service to retain them. Flights are money losers, so airlines don't want to *fly* you anywhere, but competition forces them to!
