Shiny thing alert!
#Pimoroni have a substantial sale on at the moment, including the very new #RaspberryPi powered #GalacticUnicorn, which has just come back in stock...

Galactic Unicorn (Pico W Aboard)

@jtruk
I've just received my #GalacticUnicorn
It is sooo bright, that I wanted to have a softbox. I couldn't find one, so I've created this here:

Target for this device is a room info bar with clock, alarm, weather, audio messages (maybe just pre-recorded) triggered Input via mqtt (like door bell, come down, food is ready )

Galactic Unicorn Pimoroni - Diffuse Cover Grid by Kay2One2

I've designed a diffuse grid cover - a so called soft box - to have another look of LEDs. The "little" PCB can be bought here: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/galactic-unicorn Inspired by Grid Clocks like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3889589 As a possibility to attach this device I've used this other 3D part with little modifications: https://www.printables.com/model/317905-pimoroni-galactic-unicorn-skadis-mount/files

@KHome Neat. I don't 3D print, but I imagine the LEDs look great like that!
Are you planning to use a cloud MQTT broker? Or is that something you can set up completely locally?

@jtruk
I have a local mqtt Server running 24/7 on Raspberry Pi in parallel to #Smarthomeng https://www.smarthomeng.de/

As another Projekt I have already a rp2040 with a neopixel LED as a clock (See Picture below) and a #awtrix https://github.com/awtrix/AWTRIX2.0-Apps

The Galactic unicorn is my 3rd mqtt clock.

SmartHomeNG | smarthome knx homematic mqtt hue 1wire home automation – Die Device Integrations-Plattform für Dein Smart Home

@KHome Nice setup!
I have a Pi running a few services (Pi-Hole, Syncthing, Samba share etc) but I've been reluctant to touch it recently - I know I'll need to spend a couple of hours fixing anything I break. I have more kit arriving in autumn so I'll do a proper refresh then.
It would be good to add a MQTT service. Are you using Mosquitto? Recommended?
I've not seen SmartHomeNG before. I have HomeAssistant. Does it do the same job?
@jtruk yes, Mosquitto, with my Setup very stable 😃.
I had both running. #SmarthomeNG (SHNG) and HomeAssistant (HA). It really depends on your usecase.
The benefit with SHNG is the very good #KNX Integration with Items in Combination with #MQTT. The Community is smaller and Plugins are less than for HA, but still very supportive here:
https://knx-user-forum.de
I like SHNG because everything is realized with #Python. Plugins as well as Logics, which are called via Multiple Trigger or cyclicly.

@KHome Thank you. I will keep an eye on SHNG. I think I would struggle as a non-German speaker, but I like how the project looks.
I should be able to play with MQTT. I have a Pi4/8GB running a selection of things in Docker containers, so it shouldn't cause issues to add Mosquitto alongside, and then try to link the Galactic Unicorn in (I'm trying to resist buying a Cosmic Unicorn 😄)
I've backed a couple of these, which should be good for homelab: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/uptimelab/compute-blade
