@HuShuo Yes! Love this. Going to edit the toot and add
@QasimRashid as an atheist those are all just really good advice on how to get along and live with one another. I’ve tried to live my life by the golden rule and it has served me well.
@QasimRashid I'm an historian. And one of the reasons we can and should "judge" all those "men of their time" who enslaved, dispossessed, and oppressed (while, of course, studying to understand their contexts and motivations) is because these iterations of the Golden Rule have been available to all people in all times. Heck, one probably doesn't even need to be taught them. Anyway, the oppressed always resisted "men of their time" by THEIR own standards of basic justice, too.
@QasimRashid The rules posted in kindergarten in the U.S.: Respect others, Be Kind, Tell the Truth.
@QasimRashid "Think for yourself and let others enjoy the privilege of doing so too."
Voltaire.
Religions don't have a corner on kindness, tolerance, or wisdom.
@QasimRashid The Golden Rule should be the basis of human society. The ancients knew this and wrote about it as far back as 2500 years ago in Egypt and India. It is part of every major religion. It is also just common sense advice.
@QasimRashid Simple, but lofty ideals. It’s a shame so many are encourages to choose the opposite path.
@QasimRashid "Equality" and "Tolerance" is NOT a political position, but a moral position, even if not a shared position of every single person in this beautiful world
@QasimRashid didn't Jesus also say to kill everyone that didn't become his serfs?

@QasimRashid
I dont believe in any religion mas any of these phrases are simple common sense that any normal human being should enforce.
@QasimRashid
In my view, this sentiment is the wellspring from which all morality flows. In fact, one might say that every effective moral code is merely elaboration of this single thought.
@QasimRashid all religion is nonsense.

Sura 9:5
Sura 47:4
Sura 9:73

Exodus 21:14
Eclesiastes 3: 1-8
1 Samuel 15:3

When one cherry picks from their books of ideology or systems of belief one can make their chosen deity support anything.

Pretending either book has not been used to justify muder/war/genocide is a fools errand. Atheists cannot pretend PolPot and Stalin did not commit atrocities in the hope of abolishing all systems of belief.

Personally, Aesop's Fables have provided far better instruction.

@QasimRashid All the good books say the same thing! So why don’t we all get it? The one commonality is greed. Those who still take by any means and have no moral compass. Corporate America, now more than ever, continues to reel in its worshippers. From Congress and pharmaceuticals and banks and real estate and… all the usual suspects.
