Arguments about disability and what work he has done aside, it seems pretty clear that he is being paid for the sale of his company. He is pretty much collecting paychecks as an installment plan, so any work he accomplishes at all is gravy, frankly. I hope they have to pay the guy an exorbitant amount for breaking contract.

Further down in the quoted thread, they link to a part of the article that says Halli elected to receive the buyout payment for Ueno as a salary, rather than as a lump-sum buyout, because the latter would be taxed as capital gains (less) and Halli was fine with paying salary income taxes (more) because he'd benefitted from the Icelandic social system and wanted to give back at that level instead.
