Arguments about disability and what work he has done aside, it seems pretty clear that he is being paid for the sale of his company. He is pretty much collecting paychecks as an installment plan, so any work he accomplishes at all is gravy, frankly. I hope they have to pay the guy an exorbitant amount for breaking contract.

For one thing, SpaceX and Tesla have both grown around him, do they've developed a whole cadre of people whose job is managing Musk and preventing him forming thing up too badly every time he gets a notion in his head. Twitter lacks that.
For two, those businesses mostly grow successfully when he's distracted by something else. When he pays attention to them they falter.
