Arun TharuvaiThat’s what they’ll do eventually — but first they’ll start with embrace and extend. They’ll pull people into using their own Mastodon instance, and then let the connectivity to other realms slowly bitrot once they get critical mass.
Then they’ll start the ads.
And then, they'll start making incompatible tweaks to their own version of the protocol.

GenoForPrez@w7voa Meta has also already imitated some of Twitter's most unpopular ideas/policies. People just don't like or trust Meta. They know that, which is why they changed their name to Meta. I actually specifically QUIT instagram when Meta got extremely aggressive about not letting me log into their services without installing their app so they could be on my phone. They just want the data, and they have a bad history of handling it, so no. No thanks.
