Half of all active satellites are now from SpaceX. Here's why that may be a problem

Of the roughly 7,300 active satellites in Earth orbit, about 3,600 are part of SpaceX’s growing fleet of Starlink internet satellites.

Science News

@sandorkruk @sundogplanets @planet4589 space is big. Satellites are small. And SpaceX has taken steps to reduce the albedo of their satellites.

The fact was that Hubble was affected 3% of the time vs 2% It’s a scare-mongering, sensationalist article. Implying that they think it may be more than 3% now is not factual reporting.

Many of the older, high-albedo Starlink satellites have de-orbited. So if anything it may be better now than a year or two ago.

@clith You might not blatantly lie about Starlink. Especially not at @sundogplanets ; who has repeatedly explained how bad a mess it is and how rapidly it is getting worse.

@michael_w_busch @sundogplanets it was more a complaint about Lisa Grossman’s writing and it’s lack of facts.

Please outline my lies, seriously. This is my understanding of the present situation.

Are the new satellites not of lower albedo?

@sundogplanets @planet4589 @sandorkruk
Its not just problem, its a major problem. But humanity cannot be awakened to the future health crisis these constellations will birth hundreds or millions of years from now. When strange diseases & occurences strike, they be blaming god, not knowing its the consequences of their uninformed choices & actions
@sundogplanets @planet4589 @sandorkruk Space debris might go exponential at some point unless cleaned up. Then no satellites will remain in LEO. https://palmerlabs.io

@sundogplanets @planet4589 @sandorkruk the problem with that is, Elon Musk is a totally unethical person. At this time , with his control of global communications, he can determine whose messages and what content is available. The old USSR could only dream of controlling the news & information like this.
@sundogplanets @planet4589 @sandorkruk yeah but Musk will be happy to go down in history as the FIRST space polluter
