I just saw someone in a coffee shop with what I can only describe as a literal mechanical typewriter connected to an iPad on top, and that’s it, I can’t deal with society anymore.
QWERKYWRITER® TYPEWRITER-INSPIRED® MECHANICAL KEYBOARD

@Blueskyfox @austinkocher same here. Faszinated by the idea, but it's more like a gimmick to me. On the other hand, I would like to try it. Writing on screen isn't my cup of tea, neither anymore writing on paper by hand (have been there, liked it but hated the missing search function, if you know what i mean!)

I guess, I need a new keyboard!

But not for this price. :)

@SteveTux @austinkocher Def, yes—the price is out of my range and there are many other less expensive soft-key options out there that are less likely to ever break down.

There are those tablet apps that translate your handwriting to text but I found you wind up spending a lot of time fixing how the app misinterprets your handwriting. Plus plastic stylus tip on glass doesn’t have the same resonance as pen or pencil on paper.

@Blueskyfox @austinkocher agreed on. Paper and pen, pencil or ink writer are awesome if you like to have a good time for a good reason.
Correcting software to get down what you want to is tiring.

I always have problems with Touchscreens when it comes to write down ideas ... Some of them get lost in correcting the mistakes.

Therefore I write as usual on a regular keyboard.

Only in times of need (nothing handy around, I write in my smartphone ).

@austinkocher I think that’s kinda cool, but I’m getting kinda old.
@austinkocher The good news is that when you run from society they can't keep up, because they're all carrying IBM Selectrics in artisanal (reinforced) shoulder bags.
@austinkocher
Oh, I can picture the perfect hardware / software combo! You insert the iPad, position the page and type. The iPad mechanically shifts under the print head as you type and moves up a line each time you hit enter. And, if you make a mistake, you have to "roll" the display up and erase the characters with your apple pencil! 🤣
@austinkocher That sounds fantastic, like fountain pens there appears to be a niche market for them. https://www.usbtypewriter.com/pages/ipad

Our classic typing machines have been upgraded to serve as computer keyboards and tablet docking stations. An inspiring fusion of old and new.

@austinkocher I can only envision that this person rode away on a pennyfarthing?
