Ok pals I have a fun Friday treat for you: for the past SEVERAL YEARS, someone has managed to convince Sam Harris & Eric Weinstein that aliens are real and that the Intellectual Dark Web members will be the ones to help reveal it to the world https://skepchick.org/2023/03/whos-pranking-sam-harris-eric-weinstein-about-ufos/
Who’s Pranking Sam Harris & Eric Weinstein about UFOs?

Transcript: Let me take you back in time to, oh, 2008 or so. I was enjoying my life as a noted atheist and “skeptic,” traveling the world giving talks alongside luminaries like Michael Shermer (edi…

On several different podcasts over several years, Sam Harris and Eric Weinstein have separately volunteered that a secret government operative has chosen to reveal mind blowing classified information to them. Why them? They never seem to wonder. https://old.reddit.com/r/skeptic/comments/119uj73/is_somebody_pulling_an_elaborate_hoax_on_eric/
Is somebody pulling an elaborate hoax on Eric Weinstein and Sam Harris

Two years ago, Sam Harris released three independent statements on three different podcasts saying that he had been contacted by somebody high up...

The most recent example is Weinstein telling Joe Rogan that he thinks the government will fly him to Colorado Springs to show him, presumably, the warehouse where they keep the UFOs.

How to make clips of Eric Weinstein's appearance on Joe Rogan today? 4 hours of consistent insanity, and everything he says is buried under three layers of narcissistic Weinstein lore. Well here's an attempt anyway.

I've obviously built my brand on condemning scammers, but I have to admit that this one is pretty hilarious: scamming the guys who sincerely believe they're the smartest men in the room? 👩‍🍳💋 https://skepchick.org/2023/03/whos-pranking-sam-harris-eric-weinstein-about-ufos/

@rebeccawatson But those are always the easiest to scam
@rebeccawatson Whew. A clip. Please tell me that you didn’t have to actually listen to the whole podcast.
@rebeccawatson excellent article, but am disappointed that you left out the Cottingley Fairies, which I'm sure are next on the list to be "re-examined"
@rebeccawatson You both love and hate to see it. 😆
@rebeccawatson Brilliant! Thank you. Yes. Hubris. The Achilles heel.
@rebeccawatson @donmelton The problem with the new atheist guys was they decided that they could write Philosophy treatises without consulting anything. So they're writing papers for 101 classes, but their prestige in other fields means its financially successful. That means no one is going to call them out on the fact there's an entire history of discourse rebutting and reinforcing their arguments. Once the IDW thing happened they had sycophantic fan bases willing to treat it all as gospel
@rebeccawatson @donmelton The whole thing with Charles Murray and Sam Harris was unironically just him parroting the South Park Family Guy episode; I'm not sure that dude has had anyone around him who questions that maybe he's disappearing so far up his own ass as to create a small singularity.
@rebeccawatson It's a niche thing, but when Weinstein said "Eric Bard is like almost the only other person who has some idea of what differential forms are and tensor analysis," my jaw dropped. Like, my dude, those aren't that complicated. They're standard mathematics in a whole bunch of fields now. What the hell is he on about?
