As #NASA #SpaceX #Crew6 pilot (2nd in command) Woody Hoburg @Astro_Woody sat down, the CapCom astronaut in Mission Control told him he was wearing a shirt they had talked about. Good time to mention I wore a SpaceX Dragon t-shirt for the launch. #Falcon9 #NewSpace #CommercialCrew

TEA-TEB (triethylaluminum-triethylborane) is a chemical used for Falcon 9 rocket ignition. An issue loading it was the cause of the scrub. Now off-loading propellants to safe the vehicle. / #Crew6 #NASA #SpaceX #Falcon9 #CrewDragon #Endeavour #NewSpace
Until propellants are offloaded, with 30min remaining, the astronauts stay seated in case the escape rockets activate to launch the #CrewDragon a few miles off-shore. They have practiced this. Next launch opportunity 24 hours. / #Crew6 #NASA #SpaceX #Falcon9 #Endeavour #NewSpace
I've been at #NASA Kennedy Space Center for launch scrubs on Space Shuttle (STS-134 Endeavour) & Falcon 9 (CRS-3 cargo). I've heard some complaints. Remember launches are not for spectators. A safe launch is priority. / #Crew6 #SpaceX #Falcon9 #CrewDragon #Endeavour #NewSpace
The next launch opportunity is a 24-hour turnaround. But don't expect #NASA to announce the next #Crew6 launch attempt until crews have time to determine what caused tonight's scrub and what it will take to fix. Stay tuned.πŸ‘€ / #SpaceX #Falcon9 #CrewDragon #Endeavour #NewSpace

Interesting effect of @NASA @Commercial_Crew program is the astronaut crew talks by radio with two mission controls: #NASA in Houston, Texas and #SpaceX in Hawthorne, California. As with previous splashdowns, Hawthorne told #Crew6 astronauts, "Thanks for flying SpaceX". πŸ˜€
@AstroHawk
That capsule certainly looks like it did it's job!
@Tribble_Oblivion If you're interested, there's more info online about the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. SpaceX has a fleet of four of them which mostly fly for NASA "Commercial Crew" contracts to the space station. SpaceX has also done a few privately-funded space flight charters, experimenting with a new business model. @AstroHawk "in the event of a loss of cabin pressure oxygen masks will probably NOT fall from the overhead compartment unless the thrusters are firing in the right direction, or if the venting is creating enought thrust to... Ah, hell. Forget it..."
@jstevenyork I suspect it's comparable to maritime safety briefings. There was a cabin depressurization back on the Russian Mir station in 1997, when a cargo ship collided with it. The day after I received my pass to watch the STS-86 launch, it suddenly became the Rescue Mission to Mir with emergency repair supplies. NASA astronaut Mike Foale said he was ordered into the Soyuz lifeboat while the 2 Russian cosmonauts cut cables to slam the hatch shut to the leaking module. 😲 They saved it.
@jstevenyork With all the drama going on up in orbit, it took me until after the trip to see the STS-86 Atlantis shuttle launch to realize this... It was also remarkable that my vacation plans were set in disarray by the collision of two spacecraft. πŸ˜€
@AstroHawk Yeah, I read Foale's book. It's an amazing (and terrifying) story. Not making light of what is a very serious business. It's just that, given the wording, it's hard for me not to invision some southwest flight attendants clicking together loops of seatbelt and gesturing at the overheads like presenters on "The Price is Right." (And yes, I recognize that this, also is, much as we take it for granted, ALSO serious business.)
@jstevenyork Wow. There aren't many people now who know the story from the Mir-Progress collision. But yeah, you can have it both ways with the airline safety briefings, knowing you should take them seriously and making light of how routine they are to most people.
