Today on the first day of Women’s History Month I learned that after no fault divorce was finally legalized in 1970, female suicide rates dropped 20%🤯

The "strong 1950s family unit" that the GOP is nostalgic about ignores record high female suicide, suffocating domestic violence, & zero female financial autonomy.

But maybe that's GOP's goal all along?🤔

@QasimRashid According to a friend of mine who had to get a security clearance for his current job, they STILL ask questions like "Are you a member of the Communist Party?" and "Do you associate with any persons or have any friends or family who are members of the Communist Party?", and also that having a domestic violence charge on your criminal record is unlikely to disqualify you b/c it was so normalized in the 50s.

Gotta love the 1950s. They were a great decade. /s

@dragonarchitect @QasimRashid "According to a friend...Communist Party?"

When I was going through the long process of becoming a U.S. citizen they would always ask the same list of questions, one of which was, "Have you ever been a member of The Communist Party?"

Since becoming a citizen I voted for The Communist Party once, just to be a troll, but still. Whether or not you agree with The Communist Party (I don't believe in parties period) is not the point. In a supposedly free country you should be able to politic however you want.

@dragonarchitect @QasimRashid surely if they're assessing whether you're a threat to the state, the modern equivalent question should be "are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Republican Party?"
@dragonarchitect @QasimRashid Both the US and Canada will still deny you residency and citizenship if you are affiliated with any communist group!
