There. Next up is seeing if I can erase the pencil, but not before it's dried for seventeen hours first XD

Pen is a TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris, ink is Van Dieman's Mandarin Duck Breast. In the angled view you can see the reddish sheen and the bits of bronze shimmer catching the light.

@welshpixie qoq you got ther mighty quickly! it's lovely and so detailed. And the ink is bee-yew-tiful!
@Josordoni Thank you! Yeah, years of drawing these means I can knock them out pretty fast these days XD
@welshpixie simply just gorgeous.
You have such a delicate inking hand wow ♡

@welshpixie
Such patience!

I mostly ink without pencils simply because I don't want to wait or risk ruining my drawings.

@srfirehorseart Alas I can't do that with the mandalas unless I draw over a grid with the light-pad - which I technically could but I don't like doing it, it doesn't feel the same, heh. Also why I usually use archival inks when I'm drawing these :D

@welshpixie

When I draw from life, time is of the essence and I'm slow, so that's my excuse.

One day, I really should get a light pad. Which one do you use?

@srfirehorseart ah no that's entirely valid! I don't pencil the shapes in, just the grid, because I am too lazy to draw everything twice XD

https://www.deckleedge.co.za/product/led-lightbox/ I have this in the A3 size :)

LED Tracing Light Box - The Deckle Edge

This thin, portable tracing board uses LED technology in order to ensure an even, BRIGHT saturation of light throughout the panel. It uses 80% less power than conventional light boxes and has a longer life expectancy (50,000 hours)!  Choose the best brightness for your needs. You can connect it to any USB outlet, such as a USB wall plug (not included), laptop, powerbank etc. so you can work from just about anywhere. The included magnets help secure your artwork to the surface, while the included neoprene glove helps you draw without smudging your ink. The glove is suited to right or left-handedness. Includes: Tracing Light Box USB Cable 2 x Magnets 1 x Neoprene Artist Glove Uses: Animation, Design, Architecture, Fashion Design, Cartoon Animation, Tattoo Tracing, X-ray Viewing, Photograph Viewing, Altering Floorplans etc. Note that this is not a digital drawing pad that connects to a computer – it is only a light source for tracing, film and other niche purposes. It also does not contain a battery. Please also note that the extra items included are relevant to the A4 and A3 sizes. The A2 size is out of stock for the forseeable future.

@welshpixie

Ta!

One LED tracing light box added to my infinite art material wish list.

@welshpixie
How are you enjoying the TWSBI Iris? I'm so tempted by it, I have the clear Diamond Mini & really like it. Is the Iris worth the money, do you think?
Also, the colouration on that mandala, mwah! <3 :)
@GertyBz I like it! I'm a fountain pen novice though so I can't compare it to anything else or speak to its proficiency as a fountain pen or anything, and I wouldn't like to say whether it's worth it or not as nobody's financial situation is the same - but it writes very smooth, and it's so pretty to look at, and the filling system is nice :D
@welshpixie
I'm glad to hear it's just as pretty to look at in person as in the pictures.
Was the eye candy aspect what drew you (heh) to this pen in particular? Oh, and which nib size did you go for?
@GertyBz Yes it was the eye candy XD And I got a 'm' nib but they've got a stub nib on order for me, as I pretty much only use stub nibs for the calligraphy I do so I'll be swapping it out as soon as I get it
@welshpixie
Is the stub on order 'Iris' coloured?
@GertyBz No idea, I just asked them if they had a stub nib for that particular pen and they said no but they can order one ^.^

@welshpixie
Ok then it'll just be the usual polished steel.

There's something that pleases me about you having got a 'regular' nib size like the rest of us instead of sn XXF or similar. I'm a B preference myself, I like juicy nibs. :) plus I always like to think "Hey, who you callin' a broad?" even if I don't say it aloud. :P

@GertyBz Pahaha :D The only options they had were F or M, I chose M to see if it would be wide enough for my calligraphy and it's not, but it's okay for drawing so no loss ^.^
@welshpixie
My TWSBI Diamond Mini is one of the smoothest nibs I own. The only one smoother was twice the price and nowhere near as nice to use, and I have one that's about 6x the price and not as smooth, but it is my fav to write with. TWSBI Diamond or D Mini's are really good value. Lamy Al-Stars are too, pretty but less fun. Wow I guess I had a lot to say, lol. :)
@GertyBz :D :D The only other one I have is a Kaweko Perkeo and that is also lovely ^.^ Very smooth to write with, I got the one that comes with three stub nibs. They have TWSBI D Mini's in the shop I get my stuff from, maybe that'll be my next pen :D (https://www.applebee.co.za this is where I get from)

I have s few Kaweco Sports & Sport clutch pencils, they're so cute & portable and the BB writes beautifully BUT …

The company trademarked "Moonman" in Europe (a Chinese pen company's name), just to stop them trading in Europe and it wasn't s good look. I got a few of their Classic Sport 3.2mm clutch pencils after I heard about that, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth & I won't be buying their products anymore. :(
