If you’ve used Twitterrific and/or Tweetbot and have a subscription — then this is your chance to be awesome and support awesome indie developers.

Here’s what to do: get the latest versions from the App Store, launch the app, and then tap the “I Don’t Need a Refund” button.

What is only a few dollars to you ends up, in aggregate, meaning a ton to these folks who work so hard and bring so much to our computing lives.

@brentsimmons Thanks, done on iOS, but I cannot find Tweetbot/Mac (yet?). @paul
@brentsimmons done, thanks for the heads up!
@brentsimmons I just did this. Recommend all other former users of these programs do this.

@brentsimmons I was able to do it for Tweetbot, but Twitterrific doesn't recognize my subscription, and it doesn't have the option to restore purchases anymore.

It probably doesn't matter much since there's only about two weeks left on my subscription, , but I'm bummed that I can't affirmatively say I want them to keep it.

@Chris @brentsimmons This should be fixed now. Someone is a bad programmer and it's neither of you.
@brentsimmons @NetNewsWire
Done and deleted Tweetbot. Goodbye, you were a good app 😢
@brentsimmons done. But I didn't know there was an API to be able to transfer subscriptions from one app to another with a different bundle ID. I of course already subscribe to Ivory so I chose the no refund necessary option.

@tapforms @brentsimmons

I don’t think there is any special API for that - reading between the lines (from very circumspectly coded posts I saw) I think collectively they came to a bespoke arrangement between them to try and do the right thing by people despite the very shitty circumstances forced upon them

Perhaps best to think of it as an old skool human equivalent of an API 😜

@brentsimmons Thank you. Option 2 👍🏻
@brentsimmons thanks for letting me know about this!
@brentsimmons I’d feel better if Apple didn’t get 30%
@brentsimmons @ccgus Done! Option 2, no question. Also, for anyone else like me who hadn’t yet brought themselves to delete Tweetbot yet, this dialogue won’t appear automatically even if you have the latest version. I actually had to delete and then re-download to see the screen pop up.
@brentsimmons @kyleve downloaded it just to tap that button
@brentsimmons I just already just it expire at end of term and bought Ivory the first day I could. :)
@brentsimmons Done, thanks for sharing this!
@brentsimmons does the button do anything? I just cancelled the sub (made it not renew) and deleted the app. Rather not reinstall but have no reason to request a refund.

@fastchicken @brentsimmons it does. Your cancelled sub is still valid until the expiry date, deleting the app doesn’t change that, they can initiate refunds from their end.

If you do nothing they will refund you because they’re good people. If you don’t want the money it’s a simple matter to reinstall and hit the button.

@Spyder @brentsimmons fair enough. Done at my end 👍
@brentsimmons @chockenberry hmm I have a subscription until June, but restore purchases in the app doesn’t work

@brentsimmons @caseyliss re-downloaded the app (deleted when Space Karen killed the 3rd party client API because that was my last straw
), launched it, clicked the “Don’t need a refund” button, then deleted the app again.

Done and done.

@brentsimmons @caseyliss thanks for the info, just reinstalled Tweetbot, hit the button and uninstalled again. 👍
@brentsimmons @caseyliss Done. And thanks for the tip; it wouldn’t have occurred to me to open Tweetbot again.
@brentsimmons @marcoarment but WTF? Twitter make API for developers open again. Why to close the app? This is disrespectful to me, as a consumer.
@markmaster @brentsimmons The part of the API that they are claiming to keep “open” does not actually allow full Twitter apps like these.

@markmaster @marcoarment Twitter shut down these apps specifically.

There’s nothing The Iconfactory or Tapbots can do to make their Twitter apps works again.

@brentsimmons @psm I can’t see this msg on my Tweetbot 🤔
@Timekeeper @brentsimmons is the app up to date, they pushed an update yesterday or the day before
@psm @brentsimmons I wasn’t able to se the update on thé App Store but it’s okay now, Thanks.

@brentsimmons Thanks for posting this. I had already deleted Tweetbot. Figured option 3 was the default though I see why option 3 makes sense.

I had a month left of my subscription but I’ve gotten more than my moneys worth out of Tweetbot.

@brentsimmons hahaha *no refund needed* take that! Muahaha!
@brentsimmons Done. Thanks to the teams at both companies that did such an amazing job over the years!
@brentsimmons Done. Mastodon and thanks for all the fish!
