I'm pretty sure this is fake but it would be great if Australia and other countries were so blunt in their warnings.
#COVID
@rchusid
I spent the weekend at a sewing retreat, with my CO2 monitor and high-quality mask. Shared a table with 2 women who got COVID 18 months ago. One woman and the other woman's husband needed ICU hospitalization. Neither woman masked.
@EllenInEdmonton People don't learn. It doesn't help matters that they are told the pandemic is over.
@rchusid
The woman who had very nearly been intubated truly believes that she's now immune from COVID.
@EllenInEdmonton
Any immunity she obtained from infection is considerably reduced by now. It might still protect from another severe infection but I sure wouldn't gamble on that. She might also have residue changed in her lungs which could make reinfection more risky.
@rchusid
100% agree. However, we've stopped receiving any updates about infection, hospitalization, and mortality rates so she's not likely to hear much to deter her, especially living in a rural area that's likely anti-vax/pro-"Freedom"! She's worked in healthcare but that doesn't seem to help much, these days.
@EllenInEdmonton It's frustrating to hear about people like this but I'm still super glad you have a high-quality enough mask to allow you to do things like this without getting sick. This, not staying home all the time and not pretending it's over, is the way forward.
@IPEdmonton
I really hope so because I'm not an introvert and I'd really prefer to be out and about, doing more things. As long as all levels of government are happy to pretend that COVID is over, there's plenty of opportunity for the virus to mutate, potentially becoming more infectious/lethal. I've heard good things about the effectiveness of the #BivalentBooster and I hope to get my 6th injection in a month or 2.
@rchusid unfortunately those that need to read this won’t believe it. I doubt there would be behavioral changes.

AVOID INFECTING PEOPLE YOU DRONGOS

@rchusid
The meme appears correct. It may be based upon this comprehensive study of more than 5.8 million people with repeated covid infections.

Acute and postacute sequelae associated with SARS-CoV-2 reinfection - Nature Medicine

A new analysis using US Department of Veterans Affairs databases showed that reinfection is associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality, hospitalization and a wide range of long COVID complications in individuals who have had SARS-CoV-2 compared to those with no reinfection.

The information is correct but this isn't really from the Australian government
