I'm writing about how to get sleeping habits under control. Do any of you have a go-to expert on this topic you can point me to? (Please boost—it's very helpful—and thank you for tolerating a journalist outsourcing his job to the fedi)

@jhpot As a nurse who used to work nights I had to re-adjust when I retired to a more 'normal' routine. I do some work outside during the day, I read for an hour before trying to sleep, I always go to bed at 11pm and set the alarm to get up at 8.30am. Sometimes I don't sleep well, but I stick to the routine as much as possible, or have ovaltine if I'm still awake at 3am. Mentally I go through every tiny step of making a complex garment or packing for hols to get me off to sleep.
@Judeet88 This is all great advice! Is there any chance you'd be willing to talk with me on the record about it?
@jhpot Sorry, will have to decline as I value my privacy and safety at home. You'll notice I'm not actually in bed yet and it's gone 11pm! Usually it is...
@Judeet88 That's okay! Thanks for chatting with me here.
@jhpot Good luck! Suspect sleep-hustlers out there? Fascinating number of "sponsored" Google search results for "sleep habit expert," as well as sleepy-named organizations' websites. Waiting weeks for my neurologist to get me into a local sleep clinic study in our swVa medical-specialist desert. (Topic, possible link between overnight O2-levels and frequent ocular migraines.)
@jhpot It may not check all of the boxes you're looking for, but I recommend checking out specific episodes of the Huberman Lab podcast.
@brian I'll do that! Thanks.

@jhpot The TWiT network has leaned on Georgia Dow for stuff like this.

@jhpot Of course she sells a product in this area, so she may encourage you to help promote it, but during the pandemic she freely gave out her phone number to TWiT listeners, so I think she'd be at least willing to open a dialog with you about the topic. https://www.anxiety-videos.com/store/digital-download-special-series-get-the-sleep-youve-always-dreamt-of/
@PHolder Hey, thanks! This is really helpful, I'll look into her.

@jhpot based on my experience, is it possible that you may have sleep apnea? Have you been tested for this?

Also, my experience has been that a constant level of anxiety would keep me "tired but wired" at night, so I couldn't get drowsy anf fall asleep, as my thoughts constantly whirled around. Increasing Magnesium intake considerably worked miracles for me.

@grapeshot Good to know! I'm actually in pretty good shape, personally, just looking for some experts to talk to for an article.
@jhpot Not what you asked, but I find magnesium helpful.
