The guts and compassion and service, fits into the story of Jimmy Carter like a crown. This is what it means to be human. This is the life you emulate in humilty.

@kevinrns yeah, the selflessness of it is striking. Particularly the fact that he did this sacrifice not for "his" people, his own country people, but for people miles away whom he would never have expected to see again. Just because it needed doing and he was in a position to do it.
