Bit of a different kind of coding last weekend, and had a game jam with some friends to see how far we'd get in 48 hours making a game!

The "idea" itself was that it'd be a local co-op where you and your friends defend the town against orc invaders.

Didn't finish (fall damage aside), but we did get local multiplayer to work, and tuned it to controllers so the mouse nav here became a little clunky.

The goal for the weekend was mainly for learning and having some fun, so we ended up being less focused on important aspects of building out a game, and more on random experimentation.
Shaders were definitely a highlight for me, so spent the extra time to write a water shader from scratch for a small pond, and gave the town a toony vibe you can see in the video.
Camera behavior was something I realize I took for granted in 3D games, since it became quite clear how much of an impact it has on the experience. We did a lot of tweaking here and it's still quite far from perfect.

All-in-all the experience was a blast!

Probably won't finish this one out but I liked tapping into creative expression for its own sake in an interactive medium. Plus you know, making cool shit with friends is the meaning of life.
