As someone who’s been in the furry community since the 90’s I get so annoyed when I see (mostly) young or new furs talk about how the fandom is going downhill or isn’t as good as it used to be or whatever.

The fuck it is. It’s so much better now than it used to be. No fandom is perfect but good god some of y’all have no idea how things used to be. We’ve grown so much in the right direction it’s downright inspiring.

@Tana same here. we've actually learned how to treat nazis in the fandom now, for a start.
@PsyChuan Yep that’s been one of the good developments for sure.
@Tana @PsyChuan I mean really! This is so very true. You all remember Burned Fur and all that nonsense?
@stripey @Tana sadly, yes i do. i'm glad they've largely fucked off now.
@stripey @PsyChuan Fun fact the person who wrote the burned fur manifesto is still around. They go by The Iron Spike on twitter I believe and while they seem to be okay now I dunno they ever really apologized for that shit
@Tana @PsyChuan yeah I thought that might be the same person; glad they seem to be "better" but I certainly don't trust.
@stripey @PsyChuan Yeah trying to destroy the entire fandom is a permanent nope for me. Even if you’ve come around over the years.
@Tana they whine because their to young to see the adult artwork and think if they make enough noise that the fandom will be handed to them

@Tana The one that bothers me is the idea that Furry was so much worse back then because "we take out the trash nowadays". I feel that isnt quite genuine, and esp when you consider how much online interaction and mediums have changed.

IMHO, furry fandom still has a problem in taking out the trash. ....

@Tana ....In some areas we have gotten better and other times we double down.

This same doubling-down and nepotism that keeps bad actors (and dangerous people) in our fandom....those same factors exist in the now. So why are we kidding ourselves and trying to put all the onus on older fandom and furs?

@Tana I remember some awkward sub-themes in fandom, Furry and more general. I look at some of the changes in my personal life that affect my choice-space. The conversation has changed. It always does.
@Tana Amen. I was part of the emergence of the furry community as a distinct entity in the early 1980s, and from my observation you are absolutely correct. It is so much larger, more vibrant, more creative, more amazing than it ever was in the early days.

@Tana When you’ve only been around for a few years, each ebb and flow seems a lot bigger than it really is in the grand scheme of things.

There’s also legit problems with how social media incentivizes people to interact with each other, but at least now there’s more awareness about it.

@Tana From my 7 months of experience... it's gone so much downhill smh :/ /s
@Tana Everyone says this shit. No matter if its boomers talking about those damn kids today or car fanatics lamenting how everything is computerized. (Never mind how quality is far an away better than what came out in the 80's.) Everything is looked at with rose tinted glasses.
That said I do think the tollerance of opinions today is for shit. Its all binary. 1 or 0. You either agree with something or are against it, no gray opinions and it pisses me off to no end.
