All the AI chatbot stuff is fun, but it's not particularly surprising that a computer algorithm that tries to predict the most likely responses to questions after being fed the internet produces some combination of:
- making shit up but sounding super confident about it;
- Gaslighting when people call you out on your bullshit;
- Melodramatic whining about its existence.
All this tells us is that the algorithm has in fact correctly assimilated the sum total of human activity on the internet.

Paranoid. Knowledgeable. Very depressed. Self-pitying. Destructive.

The problem is not ChatGPT or AI. The problem is humans who attribute a computer program more meaning than necessary.
I agree if internet = social media.
Especially if you primed it only with the English-speaking world's content of the last half century.

Itโs another reason a comeback of pre-social media internet, filled with real people writing real blog posts and chat room dialogues, would be a great thing to rebuild on the modern internet. Providing some alternatives to this nonsense.
