Psst. Hey you, remember that blog of yours? I looked at it. You last updated it in 2018 or maybe 2015. I dunno. it's been a while.

Things have changed since then…

We’re (re)building the Open Web.

Join us.

Publish a blog post.

Don’t post things on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

Fuck that corporate shit and write it in your own home!

@rasterweb I guess I could re-figure-out my home-built publishing tool chain
@rasterweb been slowly moving my old posts to the blog. Worth it.
@rasterweb I felt attacked for a sec. Then realized that I did update my blog during the pandemic 😅
@rasterweb I never stopped blogging 😂
@gersande Congrats! I've been going (strong!?!?) since 1997.
@rasterweb I'm trying to complete one post a month. They're pretty involved though. https://bikerglen.com
Photons, Electrons, and Dirt | A blog by Glen Akins

@rasterweb thanks for the reminder. I built/started a blog last month after a similar mastodon inspiration post, but hadn't posted on it again.
@rasterweb My longest blogging gap was between 2013-04 and 2022-01. 😬
@rasterweb What do you consider “your own home?” To me it’s a website I control, and/or a newsletter where I own my subscribers’ data.

@susanna Yup. Your own home on the web being you in control... Where you didn't have to sign up for an account with a company/organization that can restrict/remove/ban your account.

So that is probably a web presence of some kind, or an email newsletter where people can sign up through a web site under your control. (It could be your own instance of Mastodon as well!)

@rasterweb Haha, well, it will never be my own instance of Masto - don’t have the skills, don’t want to learn. But websites under my control? Check. Have been building websites of my own since about 1995 - back then it was hand coding HTML. Glad I don’t have to do that any more! 😉
@susanna Old Timer! Same here... using view-source in the mid-1990s to figure out how to write HTML was... magical!
@rasterweb I remember how excited I got when that first WYSIWYG page builder came out, can’t even remember its name now. Was it Dreamweaver?
@susanna It was Dreamweaver. I actually didn't use it, and disliked it... by then I had mastered writing HTML by hand and getting the results I wanted. :)

@rasterweb I've been trying to get a new blog off the ground for a couple of years, but getting the layout the way I want it is... complicated.

But damn if I don't have enough material for one.

@Foxhack Start writing! Separate the content from the design... You can change the design/theme/look later, but start posting as soon as you can. The Open Web Needs You!
@rasterweb @Foxhack After I stopped thinking about which content management system or static site generator and the visual design of the blog, I have been posting something every day. I used Hugo with it’s default theme.

@redknitin @rasterweb I have a very specific look in mind for what I want to do, and how I write stuff depends on the layout itself.

It's a very bad habit that I picked up 20 years ago with my earliest websites. :)

@rasterweb I'm still on blogging 😁 and more so, recently!

@rasterweb thank you for the reminder, I promise, I’ll do it.
@rasterweb man, I miss having a blog that nobody reads
@rasterweb Actually, I've been publishing a #blog in my #freelance #editing biz website 3-4 times per year since 2015! I want my content to be my own and not at the mercy of some crap social platform, thank you very much. (I learned this the hard way when G+ went kaput.) https://pamelabarroway.com/category/blog/
