SMLP : Phil GBDid’nt know that there was a board game called Civilization back in the 1980. They say it has no connection with the computer game but sounds like it was just as much as a time hog.

Jamie@SMLP I've played this. The computer games is absolutely based on it. There's just no direct license transfer. Sid Meyer's made a video game based on the core concepts of the board game and credits it as the inspiration.
@jamie_ryan never notice the inspiration credit before but it totally makes sense.

It's pretty clear when you are comparing says Civ I to the boardgame. Less so for Civ VI.
(I always feel the need to add State so people don't assume I am talking about D.C.)
