I am very glad today that I had accidentally bought an extra A/C unit condensate pump a few years ago. Saved me some big money on a service call.

Also, I hate condensate pumps.

#homeimprovement

@jerry my condolences, they truly are terrible.

@jerry On the upside they're easy to install.

Still sucks and yes they are terrible.

@jerry #HomeOwnership ... A lifelong class in fixing things you never wanted to and with a convenient 30 year payment plan
@jerry it was yourโ€ฆ dens-ity.
@jerry This is peak comedy. I demand a recount.

@jerry When I was still doing data center work, my boss bought some SUPERMICRO servers plus some extra disks AND fans. He told me that fans go out and you try to replace them only to find out they're not a standard part and you can't order them any more.

I can't imagine this with SUN or DELL servers. How do you service machines if you can't get parts?

@mvilain this is a reason that eBay is a serious part of many IT shopsโ€™ supply chains
@jerry eBay works for a small shop with a single data center. Oracle had 14 datacenters running their "legacy" cloud storage scattered across the globe when I left. When the memory or fan or system drive dies in Chicago, it's kinda hard to wait for a donator system from eBay that may note even have what you need.
@jerry I would also recommend some spare start/run capacitors for your AC unit. Theyโ€™re cheap on Amazon, easy to replace yourself (turn off the power, remove a few screws, and move the blade connectors to the new one!), and a common failing part. Could save you ~$200 and dealing with an AC contractor.
@jerry I keep a spare pump, transformer and capacitor around. Makes life easier when they fail at the worst time. My furnace & AC units are almost 20yrs old so stuff breaks :)
@lambardi I have 3 and it seems like one of them is always acting up.
