I am very glad today that I had accidentally bought an extra A/C unit condensate pump a few years ago. Saved me some big money on a service call.

Also, I hate condensate pumps.

@jerry When I was still doing data center work, my boss bought some SUPERMICRO servers plus some extra disks AND fans. He told me that fans go out and you try to replace them only to find out they're not a standard part and you can't order them any more.

I can't imagine this with SUN or DELL servers. How do you service machines if you can't get parts?

@mvilain this is a reason that eBay is a serious part of many IT shops’ supply chains
@jerry eBay works for a small shop with a single data center. Oracle had 14 datacenters running their "legacy" cloud storage scattered across the globe when I left. When the memory or fan or system drive dies in Chicago, it's kinda hard to wait for a donator system from eBay that may note even have what you need.
