Person A: hey, I like this thing!

Person B: ugh, here are 5 reasons why that thing kinda sucks…

When I was younger, I appreciated Person B a lot more. Nowadays I’m much more like “my dude, why would you see someone expressing joy for something and try to bring it down?”

@matt This concept has been more or less my life this weekend. 🫠
@matt This is the main reason I have enjoyed being off of Twitter. I also followed and then immediately unfollowed a lot of techies on Mastodon because I apparently forgot how they always acted on Twitter.
@matt Always reminds me of this classic scene.
@matt amen. This is the best thing I’ve read this week.
@matt Same. My friend calls it “don’t yuck my yum”. 😂
@matt Then Reddit said “and I took that personally “
@matt Yes! Omg! Boost Joy! The planet is turning into radioactive plastic mush, so WHY do you want to rain on parades for a friggin hobby?! (Rhetorical you!) ;). I love people's enthusiasm for their interests passions hobbies pasttimes occupations etc. I love to celebrate enthusiasm over subjective outcomes, for example. I also have a tendency to annoy Scrabble players by trying to make phrases instead of competing. For some reason, this makes them Insane! ;)

@matt I had thousands of posts on a forum that I'd been part of for 10 years and left it (quietly) when it became dominated by Person B (or rather, several B's). While debate and criticism are fine, it's usually pretty obvious when someone is expressing joy in something--and what kind of person wilfully dumps on that? My avatar is a kitten in part to remind me to be gentle and kind. :)
@matt
On 1 hand I agree.
On the other, the weird thing about social media is that a lot of people love to scream their opinions into the void and then get butthurt if you reply with your own opinion.
The problem is its not a void, on mastodon it's some followers and a bunch of randos from boosting.
Someone who disagrees with whatever is bound to see it and comment.
