Mayor John Tory resigns for an affair with a staffer. This to deflect attention away from greedy developers paying $1000 each to Doug Ford, to attend a Doe and Stag party at his place, in support of Dough Ford's Greenbelt highway.

I thought Alberta had a messy day in politics.

Edit: John Tory's relationship with Rogers is not a salary job, but as a Trust Board Member, He's been open about conflicts of interest.

Tory cleared in conflict of interest probe over vote to dial back ActiveTO measures | CBC News

Toronto Mayor John Tory did not break conflict of interest rules when he voted to dial back ActiveTO road closures on Lake Shore Boulevard this summer, the city's integrity commissioner said in a report released Tuesday.

Despite publicly vowing he wouldn't run a third term, Tory jumped up & ran for for re-election in October knowing full well his affair with a staffer could put him in political jeopardy. He also ran while (secretly) aware of Ford's plan to ram through "StrongMayor" powers. It's almost like he ran and then resigned just as Ford intended. Let's see how Ford *influences* the upcoming #Toronto mayoral election...

Something does smell fishy about this whole thing! Perhaps they knew Tory would win and didn’t want to take the chance of losing to a progressive candidate with the strong mayor powers in place.
Hard to see the advantage though, of having to go through another election in a few months! If so I hope this strategy backfires! But as you say, Ford’s next moves may clarify things!

@LeslieMaggie @gemelliz I see this all the time in Alberta politics from the UCP (I can't believe that they are ahead in the polls again). Someone gets thrown under the bus when one of the big players in the party gets outed for bad/corrupt behaviour. I can see Ford using the distraction of the upcoming election to hide other political antics. There's one thing I've learned from Alberta politics, conservatives love political chaos. Voters don't know what issue to focus one.
@LivingUnderARock @gemelliz
So true. Chaos is exhausting and a way to turn people off altogether. I’m hoping we reach a tipping point and people realize there is one issue that connects all of the others; in Ontario it’s the Greenbelt, healthcare privatization, attack on public service workers, building unnecessary highways, misspending federal funds and much more. The connective issue is corruption. Call it what it is! Conservatives need to go!

@LeslieMaggie @LivingUnderARock @gemelliz It's an ideology that "dealmaking" is a good thing when instead it simply grants significant advantages to groups with connections or the wherewithal to use (paid) lobbyists with connections. As we're seeing, it's no way to run a province.

@TonFlo @LeslieMaggie @gemelliz That dealmaking and lobbyist ideology is why Alberta is completely run by the Oil&Gas industry. Premieres need the their blessing. Danielle Smith lobbied the UCP on their behalf last year for a multi-billion benefit. As premiere, she's very much intent on giving it to them ($20 billion). This is for them to cleanup their oil and gas wells. The Federal government gave those same companies $1.7 billion two years ago. Where did the money go?

@TonFlo @LeslieMaggie @gemelliz I came across this one Tweet of Brett W. Wilson (well known Oil & Gas businessman and Oil Well abandoner). If the #IBelieveYou is for Danielle Smith, he wrote Bought wrong. This is how things work in Alberta and conservative voters are fine with it.
