Anti-Semitic tropes in the Harry Potter game are not an accident.

"The wizard game isn't bigoted. Anyway
here's a goblin shofar, used exclusively to
annoy wizards."

GOBLIN ARTEFACT:
Horns like this were used by goblins during the 1612 Goblin Rebellion to rally troops and
generally annoy witches and wizards. This horn was discovered in the aftermath of the
rebellion behind the Hog's Head Inn, with a wedge of gorgonzola stuffed inside -
presumably to mute it.

Second is the same goblin artefact screenshot but with added contex:

This is a shofar. A traditional Jewish horn.
The year 1612 was the start of the anti-Jewish
"Fettmilch Rebellion" in Germany.
This game is TRYING to be anti-Semitic.

So, as people are seeing the pretty extreme antisemitism in the new terf wizard game, it should be noted that this was not a case of s following existing antisemitic fantasy tropes’. This was purposeful. The ex lead designer is alt right and ran an alt right "anti social justice’ youtube channel. The discovery of this channel and the resulting controversy lead to him later being removed from the project late in development but the main premise of the game was determined by him and others with his

The core concept of this game is antisemitic and fully intended to be. It is not a case of thoughtless devs or lack of cultural sensitivity This game is intended to be antisemitic propaganda designed and developed by openly alt right devs.
@Julie Please edit to include image descriptions, so this info reaches as many people as possible. Thanks!
@Julie @Emily Oh my god. I figured it was bad but did not appreciate just how bad.
@mkb @Julie Plus the blood libel. It's awful.
@Julie the fact that 1612 rebellion was introduced in PoA...people claiming JKR isn't antisemetic literally doing mental gymnastics right there.
@twofirstnames I don’t think she wrote for the game herself? But whoever wrote it knew exactly what they were referencing.
@Julie Right yes. She wasn't (directly) involved with the game, I think. But like, a horn, that looks oddly specifically like a Jewish horn, referencing a rebellion that happened in the same year as an RL Jewish rebellion...
Either the designers were not paying attention, willfully ignorant, or knew exactly what they were doing.
@Julie heck me, it just occurred to me, the wedge of Gorgonzola is a nod to the Fettmilch (literally fat milk, i.e. cheese) rebellion. I can't.
@twofirstnames @Julie and she did link it to 1612 in her books. It's hard to call it coincidence when she has a well established pattern of bigotry
@Julie @bliss on the plus side, we’ve now been provided with the perfect protest that we know will annoy JKR and fans. The shofar: equally good for toppling city walls and TERF comfort.
@Julie huh, I'd have guessed it was a vuvuzela, which isn't really any better.
@Julie also that last part isn’t true- the devs knew who he was and what he’d done.
@Julie Wow, I had no idea. When I first heard there were antisemitic tropes in Rowling's work, I thought it had to be about the goblins, but this...this is not subtle at all

@Julie

I don't want to boost this toot for its missing alt texts. However, I find the topic highly note worthy. It points out the anti-semitism in the new Harry Potter Legacy video game by showing and contextualizing a gobblin horn used in a gobblin rebellion in 1612. 1612 also happens to be the year of an anti-semitic coup in Germany. And the lead developer of the game has been released for his openly far right and anti-semitic opinions. The anti-semitism seems to be no accident.

@Julie

I have found a news article giving a little more context to the anti-semitism in the new Harry Potter Legacy video game (or "the terf wizard game" as it is called in one of the screenshots above) for if you wanna read more about it.

The Antisemitism of 'Harry Potter' Returns in 'Hogwarts Legacy' | The Mary Sue

Both Rowling and the team behind 'Hogwarts Legacy' have come under fire for perpetuating antisemitic tropes in the form of a certain magical creature: the goblin.

The Mary Sue
@Julie the amount of effort to build a game and these clowns ruin the work with these excerpts? Why go through the effort or maybe they lack the imagination to create a story, so they copy history and inject the different characters? Of course if the lessons are also woven into them then maybe the outcome is to serve as a warning into the psyche.
@Julie oh shit. I knew the trans NPC was questionable, but now this seals the deal. Fuck this fantasy world to hell. There's no saving harry potter, it's beyond repair.
@Julie There's also the allusions to blood libel false conspiracy theory https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/hogwarts-legacy-antisemitism-goblins-horn/

@Julie finding out that this was originally referenced in THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN is especially fucked up.
