Probably due to #TwitterDown, Mastodon is currently seeing an increase in new users to around 1000 new users per hour, from the normal recent baseline of around 300. This is nowhere close to previous surges which reached as high as over 5000 per hour.

As has been noted, many users created accounts here and drifted back to Twitter. It seems many of these existing accounts are reenergized, so the actual impact of this latest meltdown may be greater than the numbers indicate.

@tmcarr There has been reporting that the limit message is part of the glitch and that users who have not posted at all are getting the limit message.

"When Ars reporters attempted to tweet, an error message was generated saying that a daily limit of tweets had been reached, even from accounts that had not tweeted that day. According to Twitter, users typically have to tweet 2,400 times to reach the platform’s daily limit."

@mastodonmigration I wonder what's the best way to get progressive news outlets over here?
@mastodonmigration I agree, it will be beneficial to #Mastodon in some way.
@mastodonmigration They just wanted a platform to spend time when Twitter didn’t work.
@mastodonmigration I was one of those, but then I hopped servers over to where I am now, before I learned just how communication between servers actually works.

@mastodonmigration I've had a boot in both rivers for a few weeks now and I'm slowly using Mastodon more and more and hope I'll be able to drop Twitter sooner rather than later (business/visibility, unfortunately).

I suspect a lot of folks are in a similar situation - liking it here but feeling like they need to maintain some kind of presence there as well.

@mastodonmigration Most of my online friends are still on Twitter, so it's hard to get into Mastodon as it feels like I need to build my whole community from the ground up again. I hope more people I know would join and be active though.
@mastodonmigration @_L1vY_ I've discovered that whatever it is I'm missing out on over there really isn't important enough to care about.
@mastodonmigration I swear on my Mother's grave that I will never return to Shitter as long as AO and Musk have anything to do with it. Shitter is a joke anymore. Thank You..
