Mastodon Migration

Probably due to #TwitterDown, Mastodon is currently seeing an increase in new users to around 1000 new users per hour, from the normal recent baseline of around 300. This is nowhere close to previous surges which reached as high as over 5000 per hour.

As has been noted, many users created accounts here and drifted back to Twitter. It seems many of these existing accounts are reenergized, so the actual impact of this latest meltdown may be greater than the numbers indicate.

@tmcarr There has been reporting that the limit message is part of the glitch and that users who have not posted at all are getting the limit message.

@mastodonmigration I've had a boot in both rivers for a few weeks now and I'm slowly using Mastodon more and more and hope I'll be able to drop Twitter sooner rather than later (business/visibility, unfortunately).

I suspect a lot of folks are in a similar situation - liking it here but feeling like they need to maintain some kind of presence there as well.

@mastodonmigration Most of my online friends are still on Twitter, so it's hard to get into Mastodon as it feels like I need to build my whole community from the ground up again. I hope more people I know would join and be active though.
