just changed my voicemail to “sorry i missed your call. please hang up and text like a normal person.”
@missy_lynn
Violence is not the answer🤣
@NoWordsOfWisdom i said “thank you, bye bye” at the end so … that was nice
@missy_lynn left a voicemail the other day just to see how it felt
@missy_lynn oh this is such a marvellous idea , Thankyou x
@missy_lynn you win the fediverse for this one
@missy_lynn and then I get those voicemails from my mother saying call me back please! I’ve told her 100 times if you’re going to leave me a message tell me what you want. At the very least tell me if it’s something important. And I mean, are you on the verge of calling 911 or did you wanna know if avocados were on sale someplace? Or yes, for chrissakes just text me.

@chefraven @missy_lynn

When I get a “call me” message from family, I try to determine whether or not to panic by their voice tone.

@missy_lynn you’re more polite than I am. I went with “voicemail is for savages. Send me a text”
@missy_lynn this works only so far, until you start getting into the medical world. Learned this the hard way this year. You can do voicemail, or they can fax you 🤦🏻‍♂️
@canturk @missy_lynn Almost 100% of my voicemail is from three categories: medical providers, government agencies, and people over 60.
@missy_lynn Very contemporary. My kids, 20s, very rarely pick up their iPhone and never respond to messages. Even text messaging is problematic. Email even more so. None of us have landlines. Very different to the telephone era of my childhood and early adulthood.

@missy_lynn Just like my daughters.

Text before you call.

@missy_lynn @thesiswhisperer I DID THIS many moons ago, and the lovely old ladies I volunteered with would dig out & dust off their mobiles, power them on, and text me. It was incredibly sweet!
@missy_lynn I’m more passive-aggressive, I guess. I had my carrier disable my voicemail.
@missy_lynn I’m 52 years old and I had my first cell when I was 14 so that’s almost 40 years of cellphones. I hate all of you that won’t answer the damn phone (not really but it’s very drsmstoc to say it 😂) I will call people anyway and yeah I will text if you don’t answer. 😂😂😂 I like calling and I like talking to people and I like solving in 30 seconds what could take hours of texting. Sorry not sorry but not angry either. 😛
@imbou @missy_lynn
I used to answer the phone, but too many years of "solving it in 30 seconds" turning into "I never said that" means I want it in writing!
Yes, I answer the phone when my mother calls (well, mostly butt dials), but not my boss.
@deirdrebeth @missy_lynn If have an important conversation that involves agreements, I will surmmarize it in an email to avoid problems. Most people today don’t answer any mode of communication email, text it’s an avoidance meachanism, plain and simple. I am in sales and recently I spent two months trading messages for a deal, one phone call and the deal closed. This is not uncommon. Talking is effective and I also like talking to people, even my boss!

@imbou @missy_lynn

There's a good principle in good API design that can have a human parallel here. "Be open and flexible in what and how you receive information, but be consistent in how you give information".

By being less restrictive in our input channels (email, text, voice, whatever), we can be more inclusive, while at the same time helping to be consistent in how we respond.

@binaryrefinery @missy_lynn absolutely excellent analogy indeed!!!!
@missy_lynn My voicemail says "I do not check this, I will never get this message. Text or email me."
@missy_lynn You still have voicemail? Ok Boomer ☺️

@lombaedi

Seriously, why does half of this chain even have voicemail to be set up, let alone messages for others to hear? How? Why?

cc: @missy_lynn

@missy_lynn hah! And I bet people STILL stubbornly leave voicemails. Mine's been "I don't listen to anything you leave here so call back or text" for ages and the amount of people who refuse to accept this...
@missy_lynn I wish the pharmacy where I work would get with the times and allow us the technology to send texts. So many people call us like "I am out of meds why haven't you contacted me??? no of course I haven't gotten any voicemails, what is a voicemail"

@missy_lynn mine says:
I don’t answer phone calls from phone numbers I don’t know.
Leave a voicemail and I MIGHT call you back.

Thank You

@missy_lynn oh what a brilliant idea!

@missy_lynn
Call mine: 615 307 0223
@EliasToufexis @ twit

*** FYI ***

That's a GoogleVoice number which is a tele-verse-net-scape-cyber! It disturbs me NEVER.

@missy_lynn
I seriously laughed so hard! I need to do this!
@missy_lynn my voicemail has me in a very loudly echoing hallway yelling that I’m sooo busy right now and call later.
@missy_lynn
You still have voicemail?
