“ In one study, male bicyclists were shown to have proceeded straight at an intersection while the light was still red to get ahead of the traffic. Female bicyclists waited for the light to turn green. Turning truck drivers, proceeding on the same green, killed the law-abiding and careful female bicyclists.” https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2023/01/is-cycling-safe-in-many-cases-the-answer-is-no/ #WomenWantToBikeToo #bike4fun #bikesafety #BikeTooter

Just because the turning truck will kill you is no reason to break traffic laws.

Just because you can type, doesn't mean you should.

@Digger_71 @MobilityMaine Was I supposed to add a snark tag?
@dr2chase @Digger_71 I was about to write: “I bet Dr2 has a fabulous sarcasm voice that he uses in live conversation!” 😁
@MobilityMaine
Most depressing thing I've read today so far. :,(
@hittitezombie Sorry about bringing you down. The upside of reading it for me is that I now have a handy & quick response when people say, “See, look at that bicyclist go right through a red light!”
@MobilityMaine This is the main reason for advanced stop boxes for cyclists. With cars getting bigger all the time, this is a problem that's going to get worse.
@Naich I have to admit I had never heard of “advanced stop boxes” until a few weeks ago! I haven’t seen any in person here in New England, but I saw one on a video about cycling in London. It’s the kind of brilliant that makes one wonder why it hasn’t existed for a century.

@MobilityMaine if bike riders were required to be licensed and taxed, this would solve the problem.
