https://movetodon.org/ was working a few hours ago, but it might be swamped now with everyone rushing to use it! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ (Or maybe twitter has blocked it early?) ๐Ÿค”

I get this error when Movetodon tried to log into twitter: ๐Ÿ˜ž

#Mastodon #Twitter #TwitterMigration #Movetodon #Debirdify #FediFinder

#5ciFiGirl

Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

Next I'll give #Debirdify another try! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

@Tibor @cautionwip @andybaio @voxpelli

#Debirdify is still working, for now! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@5ciFiGirl

They all are right now. But developer APIs, which most of these free services use to access Twitter, are being shut down in 1 week. Not much warning for thousands of tools and utility devs and users, but, yโ€™know better than when they just turned all their other APIs off with no warning and then didnโ€™t admit it for days.

@cautionwip

Scroll up for the error message I started getting for Movetodon. โ˜น๏ธ

But I'll try it again now.

*Edit, nope! โ˜น๏ธ

@5ciFiGirl Yup, I replied elsewhere about that. It was working before I suggested it be added to the original post, so assuming Elmo didnโ€™t jump the gun and shut it all down just now, Iโ€™d guess they got hammered by people looking to update things before doomsday and it maxed out on its call-limit for free dev accounts (which I believe was recently dropped really low for some accounts already). Debirdify is still working and as long as youโ€™re comfy with downloading csv files (some folks arenโ€™t).
Debirdify

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

@cautionwip @andybaio @voxpelli

There's another new alternative to #Movetodon, called #MastodonFlock ! (I haven't tried it yet, but I will later tonight. )

At first glance, it looks like it might combine the best of the other tools, logging into Mastodon to see who you already follow, AND providing a CSV at the end! So it's got some flexibility! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Here it is:

Mastodon Flock

Migrate your tweeps to the Fediverse

@5ciFiGirl @andybaio @voxpelli The win 3-1 styling is brilliant.

@cautionwip

Yes, that was hilarious! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have been using Apple since 2005, so that gave me quite the shock! ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿ˜†

@5ciFiGirl @andybaio @voxpelli Mind you, it limits you to follows, where Debirdify will give you follows/followers/lists

And also allows you to do it for other Twitter users.

@cautionwip

Interesting!

@cautionwip

Ok, I think I missed something.

What feature works on "other twitter users"? ๐Ÿค”

@5ciFiGirl You can retrieve a similar list for a Twitter account if you enter their Twitter handle instead of your Mastodon one (format @[email protected]).

It will then scrape their Twitter account instead of yours and provide a similar list.

@cautionwip

Which one, debirdify? Or Flock?

Sorry, I'm still confused, lol!

@5ciFiGirl debirdify

@cautionwip

I still don't get it, lol! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I don't give Debirdify my mastodon handle, just what is in my Twitter bio.

And I have to give it permission to scan my Twitter.

So I don't see where to put soomeone else's ID.

If there is some workaround, it doesn't sound like what it was designed for. ๐Ÿค”

@cautionwip @andybaio @voxpelli

I tried #MastodonFlock ! It didn't find anyone I hadn't already found, but it worked! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

And it functions more like #Movetodon than the others do, so it's a good option to have out there. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Also, here is a good detailed comparison of the different tools, and how they work: ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Given that twitter is going to start charging for api usage next week, but has neglected to give anyone any info about rates, I recommend running https://www.movetodon.org/ one last time while you still can. None of the migration tools will work after the 8th (give or take some timezones).
